GE beats Q1 expectations

GE beats Q1 expectations, boosted by oil, gas and aviation

General Electric (GE) reported first quarter earnings on Tuesday that beat Wall Street’s expectations, with weakness in its beleaguered power unit partly offset by strength in its oil, gas and aviation businesses.

....

In a statement, Culp reiterated March’s guidance for the company, saying that he was “encouraged by the improvements we are making inside GE. This is one quarter in what will be a multi-year transformation, and 2019 remains a reset year for us.”

Well GE stock has broken through the technical limit of $10 and has even gone over its 200-day moving average. The bulls may be fools but for now they are winning. https://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=ge

as analysts look deeper into the numbers

No one is trying to fool anyone. Culp specifically said guidance is unchanged from where it was months ago. He gains A LOT of credibility by restating his guidance in the face of what could be spun as great news.

The Cash Flow and Debt issues are still in play.

Pension is still underfunded.

Significant unknowns still exist in Capital.

Continuing negativity in Power financials with focus on HQ Consolidations and employee Exit/ Layoff Payments.

Renewables is struggling as well.

Healthcare’s last really strong quarter depending on closing for BioFarma.

Aviation the only truly strong business now has 737 Max issues in play. Q2-Q3 timing impacts are in play now with grounding.

I expect the stock to pop on profit being better this period but as analysts look deeper into the numbers and towards Q2 and Q3 to base the stock price we could see a pulllback.

So good news is no news. GE beat expectations in the timing of revenue but maintains it's guidance for the year. This allows Culp to continue to execute his plan. Ho hum.

The premorning trade is up but has not yet broken the technical limit of $10. I think the bulls will be held in place given Culp's comments. It's steady as she goes for GE.
