Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

marvin's one day giveaway, 84.5 million loss.

so what is everyones thoughts on this one day event they did yesterday? someone on reddit took the number of available coupons and the odds and broke it down. It looks like corporate gave away 84.5 million dollars to people that likely arent normal lowes shoppers and were just there to get free stuff. this is downright horrible. cutting hours like crazy and then giving money away. what leg do these mo--ns have to stand on when an employee goes slightly into OT now! what ceo continues to maintain a job when your promo is this disastrous. how do you not put in minimum purchases in order to use the coupon!!!!! so what is the play here? new customer base? k--l the chances of store bonuses? close stores due to destroyed margins? fire store managers because of poor margins? tax write offs? anyone have a theory on why they did this? doesnt even add up. stores didnt even seem to really know this was about to take place. hours werent added for the day even though they would know the foot traffic would be a nightmare. this did not increase revenue even though sales were higher. people just bought up to the coupon limit and nothing more. so what in the world did we all just witness?!

If the store staffs weren’t made aware of the event then that is because your management team didn’t care. The managers were made aware of the event at the beginning of the week via a wire task. The rest of the store would have got a wire task on Friday informing them of this and the managers were supposed to talk about it as well. This was all done to prevent Depot from adding a promo at the same time.

To all of you complaining about it effecting the bonus: hourly associates only have to worry about top line sales, not profit or customer service or anything else. Did my store have some people who only bought the coupon limit? Yeah we did. But we came out positive for the day as most people used the coupon just to get a little discount. Even the 9 $500 winners we had in the store used it for a discount and all bought at least $800 worth of stuff.

When your bonus is based off of sales and margin, you blow your margin on something like this. Then you don't have to pay the store their bonus. "Sorry team, you just missed on margin, better luck next time. God bless." You should have seen the zero dollar report Sunday :(

So are we naive enough to think that the winners of the larger prizes were randomly selected?

Poorly planned and executed. Im shocked that these words are being used to describe Lowe's.

that also adds to how bizarre this all was. i have the lowes app on my phone, as well as menards. when menards runs a promo or sale theyll send you a notification to their app. lowes NEVER does. there was nothing when i went into the app...there was nothing on the website. I didnt even know the event was taking place until after 6pm when i went to the only at lowes facebook page and EMPLOYEES were struggling with whether this event was real! by text the number and they were already out of coupons.

seems the millionaires in corporate only wanted customers in store to know...i think the poster said something about "texting the number while inside the store" LOL......theyre so out of touch with the world they live in that they did not plan at all for this event to be posted to every coupon site out there to be abused by every cheap-give-it-to-me-for-free non-customers.

i also have the mylowes account...no notification....why do they even have mylowes if they arent going to develop it to benefit loyal customers?!

In not wanting their store employees to know this event was going to take place -- i assume so as to not risk a mass call-off of cashiers -- the employees had no protocols in place for dealing with the customer with 30 coupons etc. etc. BARE MINIMUM if youre going to do 1 per customer and then not enforce it.....at least make them make their purchase and then get back at the end of the line! it no longer will be worth it if you have to wait a half hour every time you want to scam the system and use another 5 dollar coupon.

Corporate needs to stop treating their employees like dog c-ap and work with them on these things.....sometimes that 13 dollar an hour cashier can inform you big wigs in corporate on how the little guy will destroy your event! shoot theyd of been better off doing some sort of raffle ticket at the register where you just pull out the next ticket to see what you won! could more evenly distribute the 500 winners better because i think alot of stores got completely slammed by those winners.

I have a Lowes credit card and an $18000 line of credit. Lowes sends me useless emails about twice a week.

I received NO notification about this coupon program.

I will be canceling my card today.

and meanwhile, hard working employees can no longer get any deals themselves.

I worked 11-9pm flooring spec. And was not made aware of this event. There was no email, or anything till I heard any overhead page around 6pm.

I did not know this was going on until I was checking emails just before punching out.

Store actually seemed less busy than usual for a Saturday.

At my store we had all registers open every hour that the store was open and code 3’s all day.

The coupon went viral very quickly and our store was overwhelmed. Some associates never made it to the sales floor due to being on a register for their entire shift.

The whole thing was poorly planned and executed. Our store manager didn’t provide information about this until mid afternoon via email; cashiers can’t access email so some only learned of this after their shift.

Another WTF moment from Lowes as Marvin and the Marvettes become increasingly desperate to show the world their I’ll conceived plan, that blueprint thing, is working (which it is not).
