I worked at hinkle until 2018. Sounds like the hump has been done for a while now.18 cartoads laid off and the western region brass said their "shifting switching operations at hinkle TO portland, nampa id,pocatello id, and salt lake....thats a baaad baad move for u.p.! They need hinkle due to the blue mountains and its a big hub. But greed has no end in sight for brass to make their money n run as u.p. folds up. Sad how so few can disrupt so many lives! Stay safe!

Yes , unfortunately in a capitalist society there are always going to be lay-offs . This is true whether you work union or not and railroad or not. All you can do is stay on top of your craft and be flexible in finding new jobs. The railroad isn’t dependable anymore, that’s the new old reality. Not trying to a smart azz that’s just the way it is!
