Laid off field techs should file lawsuit ASAP

Apparently Windstream HR thinks it is fine to lay off male technicians and then offer bonuses on referrals to replace them with female field techs, is this legal?

If you were recently let go contact an employment attorney ASAP and file a lawsuit as this is clearly a s-xist hiring policy.

Basing hiring decisions on race, s-x, religion.....etc is supposed to be a bad thing? I could use the $1000 referral bonus since I have not had any salary adjustments in years. But not sure I hate anyone enough to recommend working for Windstream.

What the hell are you talking about, laying off males and bonuses to hire females. While I agree that this place s---s. I work with field daily and there are more males than females out there that call in. Only females I've spoke to have been their quite a few years, not new hires.

All it will take is for one male to be overlooked for employment after a female is hired. Out of all the "new hire" positions filed in our state in the last 2 years, roughly 25, only one female that I know of applied. But she was overlooked by management (even though HR pushed her name through) because on face value (not looking at names or gender), she did not meet half of the qualifications that put many more people ahead of her in the running had. Kind of hard to justify hiring a past camp counselor/waitress over a surplussed ATT tech with 8 yrs experience.

I'm not saying they are out there, but most women don't want a career of carrying a 75lb ladder and climbing several times a day, or crawling under a half condemned mobile home that's 10 inches off the ground, or digging up a cut drop or cut cable by hand when it's 95 plus outside. Or, as the only female I knew of that was a CST and left, couldn't handle every other male customer, hitting on her and literally throwing themselves on her and in one case exposing himself to her. Most of this happened on her scheduled Saturday's, when most people are home, partying and already drunk by noon. Add to that, the extra workloads that like all of us know, carry us to 8-9 pm at night.

So what will the company do, not let a female work past 5pm so she won't have to be rolling up to some drunk dudes house at 7-8pm to work on his internet, in which the modem is in his bedroom, and the trouble is actually his pc from all the p--n he watches, etc...... I know it's up to the woman to decide if that's the job for her or not (hell, I've pulled up to houses before and been scared out of my wits before and I'm 215, 6'-1"), but there's a lot that can snowball from this, just because they want get more diversity in the field.

Maybe whoever reads the LayOff from outside this company needs to investigate this one!
