Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

25-30 years of Off Shoring ....

And suddenly you care? Now someone should do something about it? Where have you been when all those other jobs were sent out of the country? What cars have you been driving? What clothes have you been wearing? What household goods are you buying? Where was your outrage the last time you bought these things? Where was your outrage the last 25 years?

Many people have said to me I only buy American cars , duh, well that does not mean jack. When deciding on my Kia I found that 45% was Korean electronics which are among the best made globally and US doesn’t even play in that field & 55% was US made including assembly in the US. Do your homework before buying anything and protect our future, chumps!

In making a selection for where to invest my pension because yes I am leaving this toxic environment and it’s deathward spiraling, I had given my financial advisor specific criteria including it had to be an American company, nothing Carl Icahn had any significant investment in, nothing Carl Ican owned and NO companies with offshore call centers. It was not easy but he found some really good ones. I also validated it myself. Do your homework before you purchase anything.

AI will be a much greater threat to jobs than offshoring. In another 5-10 years AI will dramatically impact employment, virtually eliminating process oriented jobs of all kinds.

If they want the lowest price and everyone knows it. How come Xerox is so top heavy with Sr VP's, Executive VP's and, VP's? I have seen only 5 or 10 be worth anything in 30 years.

All those jobs shipped to India, Mexico and China get real when my job gets sent to HCL in India.

Ugly!

Customers demand the lowest price.

They can say all kinds of things but in the long run they want lower and lower prices.

They may say they want quality. They may say they want service. But ultimately they want the lowest price they can get and they don’t care where the bill comes from. Or where the scheduler is. Or where the box is made. Or who delivers it. And if they can buy it all online, without a salesperson, they will.

I've always cared. As long as I've been working full time as an adult. As soon as I came to understand what outsourcing meant to this country, I cared. I do try to buy American when possible, but it's very difficult to do.

Look at your clothes. Look at your cars and the parts they are made of. Look at the copiers and maps that you sell. Look at all the back office jobs that xerox has sent overseas every year for the last decade and longer.

The “turn around” in offshoring is minuscule. It hasn’t amounted to a hill of beans. Kid yourself if you choose. I’m sad for all those that recently lost their jobs or got moved to HCL. AND ALL THOSE THAT HAVE LOST THEIR JOBS BEFORE THEM.

I have to down vote this, not for its sentiment but for its lack of acknowledging the fact that the major offshoring that occurred in most major corporations actually started to reverse 3 to 5 years ago. Major American companies like Ford, GE and others who previously offshored many functions such as IT, actually brought those thousands of jobs back to American after suffering from lower quality work and not capturing the benefits of having in house on shore services.

So in short, only fools offshore if it negatively impacts their customers. Customers demand more. Offshoring rarely produces what it promises. Icahn and his henchmen want short term changes to move the stock price and sell Xerox. It’s not a long term strategy, despite what they say.
