Xerox cuts 400 jobs in Q1

orwalk-based Xerox jettisoned 400 more jobs in the first quarter of the year while leaving unfilled roughly another 1,100 that opened up as a result of employee attrition.

The reductions took Xerox’s workforce to 30,900 people at the end of March.

Under CEO John Visentin, revenue dropped 9 percent from a year earlier to $2.2 billion, but profits surged to $133 million from $23 million in the first quarter of 2018.

Shares were down 5 percent Thursday to $32.17, but remain up 60 percent on the year.

Xerox paid out $24 million in severance between January and March and another $12 million to cancel existing leases, with the company stating it has another $74 million in restructuring charges budgeted for the coming 12 months.

“We optimized our workforce, and while we don’t ever want to minimize the risk of disruption that’s created by all these changes, ... in each case we made these changes because we know what’s best for Xerox in the long-term,” said Bill Osbourn Jr., chief financial officer of Xerox, speaking Thursday on a conference call with investment analysts. “I personally met with over 300 of our managers, and I can tell you that while there was some disruption, they are all excited about the future because we are investing in the long-term.”

To QNK

The D&C rarely reports on Xerox bad news anymore. Its pretty depressing to watch companies pushing out hundreds of people a year and nothing in the local media. But if Friendly's closes down. You got even a US Senators attention.

Xerox cuts are not a blip on the screen of the US economy.

Bill .... There is No Long Term for Xerox anymore (maybe the brand name only) . A 9% drop in revenue is only the beginning of the revenue avalanche that is coming. Sooner or later there will be no more costs to take out either. You know its all about the set up for the sale, as one, or in pieces.

Is it just me or with all of the leadership churn, layoffs, outsourcing, and general unrest at Xerox, why is there barely a peep in the Rochester Democrat but, Rochester is still the company's largest concentration of employees and obviously has deep ties to the region. Has the paper simply given-up with respect to Xerox's future or has someone spoken to them?

Anyone know any managers that are excited for our future? I sure don't.

Bill is the worst cfo I have ever met. Unless things have significantly changed in the past few months, he was always so negative about xrx that his staff would leave his office totally depressed. NOT a great leader and also one that doesn’t have any ba--s so I am sure he’s just Vas---ne’ s little puppet while bi-----g behind his back. They are all horrible and deserve each other. A match made in he-l.

Ppl should ask Bill Osborne exactly what his long term investments are in and how much. He’s full of b s.

He’s saving more than half his profits for further restructuring charges. Another slick accounting trick, but seriously with hundreds of millions in Corporate tax cuts Xerox is actually not making a profit all else equal.

Don’t be dumb, XRX is a dud.
