HCL offering Rebadged employees retention bonus.

Is this an act of desperation to retain employees?

Risk and reward is usually a big key part in deciding to stay. The risk is months of unemployment with no benefits or missing an opportunity finding a job while the market is good. The reward is the bonus. We have to ask ourselves, is this amount they offered worth staying? What is my end result? I know we can all get caught up in the "Special Bonus" dollar amount offered. I've weighed all this out and decided this amount is not worth me staying and will continue my job search. I do not want to miss an opportunity to find a great job just to help HCL train our replacement. We have amazing talent all throughout these cores and you do not deserve us! Please do not get sold on the idea of a bonus. They are using us for our knowledge. They have lied to us and now that they got caught, they decided to offer a stay bonus. Why wasn't this offered months ago? We need to think of our future and find a job - that should be the reward! Best of luck to all!

HCL did the same thing in 2011, it was a small carrot to keep people from going out the door til they learned how to do the work themselves, then those people where pushed out. If you have another job lined up, take it.

We were not offered an upfront bonus. First bonus is to be paid upon 6 months of employment from date of joining. Than you would be eligible to paid out after 30 days of completion after the 6 months. Key words "Should HCL terminate your employment for any reason other than “For Cause” prior to your bonus pay day, the Special Bonus will be paid with your final pay." States HCL is "committed," does not state there is a guarantee to get a bonus.

I do agree with poster, this amount is not enough to keep me here. Sorry HCL, you are too late. You are not giving us this amount out of kindness, you are desperate looking to keep us. Bye bye HCL!

This is a WIN for everyone. It is an additional safety net especially for employees that will struggle to find comparable work. That saying 'a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush' applies here. If you can get another great job right now in this awesome job market, do so. For those that opt not to do this and will train their replacements in India or Guatemala, be sure that HCL doesn't try to screw you out of the severance.

Find out how much more you can get first. This is supply/demand market for your skills and knowledge. Play the game that way.

Tell them you want more $ than what they are offering. Or ask for 50% now and 50% later.

Take the bonus and continue to look for a job.

If you find a better job, leave. If they pay up front , worse case is you’ll reimburse them, if it’s 50/50- you lose 50% but get a better job. Unless they make you pay a penalty, i see no reason why you shouldn’t negotiate for the best retention bonus and look for a better job. Keep all options open and charge them the “very special rate” they should pay for your unique skill set. Make sure to tell them you want the “grossed up” amount (so they cover your taxes).

For those of us not rebadged, but care about our friends - what was the carrot? I heard if you stayed 3 months, they gave you a month bonus. I was unclear about the second bonus. Are they going to make you sign anything?

100% agree! No money is worth this current work environment stress.
