Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

How does new job affect severance?

Coworker who was laid off earlier this month already has a new job. He actually started literally a week after being laid off, he said. i didn't think about that at the time, but now I'm wondering - will starting a job right after layoff affect severance in any way?

You can still use GEs health insurance at a new job I’m currently doing it

I know from first-hand experience you are still covered by GE healthcare if you don’t take the lump sum for one year Once you take the lump sum you’ve officially cut ties with the company

It should be obvious but yet I was laid off and started a new job and my health benefits still work

Your severance package gives you details you seek. Most layoff packages let you request a lump sum payout once you have other employment. It should be obvious that any health care and unemployment will end once you start another job.

Congrats on the new job and do not expect anything from GE

He needs to request the lump sum payout. Also, I believe he won't be able to get any benefit from the State due to having a full time job now (that portion is peanuts compared to the total severance compensation).
