Thread regarding Anadarko Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Best of Luck

I got laid off in 2016 after 20 years with the company in place of folks who were faster, savvier, more forward thinking (i.e. younger & cheaper or friendlier with the boss) than me. It's amazing how life has a way of putting you in your place when you think you've got it all figured out.

I wish the best of luck to the good ones left at APC, and may the dirtbags who rose in the ranks solely on cronyism finally get what they deserve (a job chasing shopping carts at H-E-B).

In corporate America (or any hierarchical power structure), managers routinely hire:

(1) members of the same tribe (family, race),

(2) cronies (member of the same religion, culture, fraternity, etc.),

(3) good-looking women (or mistresses),

(4) yes-men (a.k.a. azz-kissers),

(5) incompetent people (who satisfy diversity quotas, i.e. NOT straight white men), and, finally,

(6) competent people (who actually do the work).

But to prevent a competent person from either taking the managers’ job or exposing the managers’ incompetence, shortly after hiring a competent subordinate, many managers start plotting to get rid of him ASAP… but not before stealing credit for his work (and then giving it to themselves or favored coworkers).
