Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

If you're a real leader, you protect your people

It comes down to this--if you're still a manager at BN, what is the honorable thing to do? Do you try to hang on by your fingernails, and hope you don't have to bring people--your people, your booksellers, into your office and lay them off? Do you go through this again?

Or do you do your best; do you fight off the layoffs, move your booksellers around, try to keep them their jobs?

Or, do you finally just leave? Find another job, and give your notice, and hand over your keys at the end of your last shift?

If you're a leader, a real leader, you protect your people until you can't carry out the orders any more. Then you leave. This is what managers do.

The time's coming to ante up, folks.

They're all fkn liars. I saw for years how they would get rid of people they didn't like or the DM would want to them to get rid of. The women are the worst!

My SM knew way before February, last year. ASM told me , he knew back in December. That was a good 3 months that I could’ve gotten a new job & not fired, out of the blue. While I realize the SMS were just carrying out the company directive. I was used to get them through Christmas, after Christmas returns, Inventory, then tossed out on my butt. My SM told me. “ it’s not me. I did everything I could to help you. You’re an excellent worker and a good person. You didn’t deserve this”. I told him:But you sat back and did NOTHING to help me. You’re a liar and a coward. And when it happens to you, and it will. I hope someone “ helps “ you the exact way you “ helped” me. You deserve it” . Afterwards my ASM said he did nothing but bad mouth me and said he was glad I was gone.

THAT’s your BN SM.

My situation was the opposite. My SM fired me while my DM was on vacation.

My store manager wasn't even the one to tell his employees that were laid off last February . Conveniently took his vacation . Was left to the district manager to do. Now tell me that the store managers didn't know . Theses are not managers. They are a---kissers. Those few that were protected by your manager, lucky for you......for now, but the end is near. If you have been with this company for a while .... now is the time to get out, you have the experience for a better job....leave them with all the part timers who don't care, at this point your loyalty means NOTHING.
