Thread regarding Anadarko Petroleum Corp. layoffs

How will Anadarko operate under Chevron?

Forgive my ignorance on the matter. This must be common knowledge for you. I’m not an insider, but my husband and his brother work at Anadarko. I was hoping someone could answer me, will Anadarko remain a separate entity under the Chevron umbrella or will it just melt into the chevron structure. Thinking if it continues to operate with some form of independence less people could get cut.

Anadarko will not exist anymore, so don't concern yourself with how it will operate. It will just be Chevron and how they operate. Conform or leave.

Chevron made it plain they want the onshore and maybe Mozambique. The rest is on the block. Whatever they can get for it goes against the cost of the acquisition. GoM properties are going. WoA as well.

I think you also forgot that Anadarko acquired Freeport-McMoRan's oil and gas assets and also took over Kerr-McGee. Now CVX is taking over APC. The big just keep getting bigger. I think it's likely that some of APC's GOM assets will be sold to some of these 2nd tier companies like Fieldwood, Enven, Talos, LLOG, etc.

You left out Gulf Oil which was bought by Standard Oil of California, which later became Chevron. Also, Pure Oil Company merged with Union Oil Company which was then bought by Chevron. That is how Chevron became a huge multinational corporation and how it acquired all of that Permian Basin acreage. You can now add Anadarko to that list.

If history tells us anything APC is on track to disappear.

BP/amaco/arco/vastar

Total/fina/elf

Chevron/Texaco/uncocal

Exxon/Mobil

Statoil/hydro

Shell/BG

Chevron 48000 employees

Apc 4500 employees

Savings=payroll reductions.

How will Anadarko operate under Chevron? This is not a merger. Time to look for a new job. (and Exxon is not hiring in the Woodlands.)

Opportunities on both sides but CVX people have home court advantages. It will bring out the best in some and the worst behaviors in many others. Realistically, politics and cronyism will play a huge part. For some, this is the event that pushes them on to make a decision they have been struggling with. First impressions and an impactful start are important. You can’t rely on reputation because you’re basically starting over. Good luck APC colleagues. It was a good run with a great company.

@ics, You just quoted the “party line”. That philosophy or way of doing things is for public consumption only, but the real truth is Anadarko now belongs to Chevron. It’s gong to be Chevron’s way or the highway. It’s going to be brutal for many. I’ve been through a few of these already.

Complete B.S. by the previous posters...... Chevron is a large firm that will envelop Anadarko, using its strengths and improving upon its weaknesses. Specific tasked personnel are generally safe as at this point in time everyone has learned to do more with less and there is very little bloating in the ranks, especially within a smaller organization such as Anadarko. Will it be a 100% wash for all who want to stay? Absolutely not, but it will also not be a slaughter as those previous posters have suggested. The biggest challenge will be the commingling of the business philosophies, between large and small corporate worlds.

I was with UNOCAL at the acquisition. UNOCAL folks filled out a form listing strengths and experience. We were asked where (location) you would like to land. Be careful here, if you say you’d like a place other than Houston, but are not 100% sure, you will likely be asked to move. Most people who wished to stay on stayed and were happy with th the offered position. Many left because they did not want to work for such a large company. Many of the Unocal managers opted to leave. Word of advise, don’t go on about the way Anadarko does things, Chevroids will not want to hear it.

Chevron will own everything trade marked with the Anadarko name. This will all be stored away in a dark place, never to see the light of day, unless Chevron sells it. Anadarko will go extinct as a company. Better to start looking now for other employment. Don't wait.

Anadarko will cease to exist. Those out in the field are the most likely to hold on to their positions. Those in the office in redundant functions need to start thinking of back up plans. Chances are high that CVX will let them go after the acquisition. The CVX person heading the transition is known for keeping it lean and will clean house. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Better to be prepared for the worst and hope for the best, right? Good luck to your family.
