I see so many people seeing what's happening right now as the end of the company, which makes me wonder - is there a way for Windstream to get out on top of this? Or is this really it?

WIN is the new Fairpoint - they went down a similar path with Chapter 11 after their clueless leadership acquired Verizon POTS lines, then they had problems integrating it, eventually they had to file Chapter 11, then came out of it and was eventually snatched up by Consolidated Communications for a clearance sale price.
Same thing will probably happen with what used to be WIN.

And the Chili.

I can think of one very specific employee type that isn’t afraid of leaving this place and that won’t have trouble quickly finding a comparable or better job elsewhere. Top performing sales people. No chance that the best in that department are not gone or planning to leave. The engine of the company is about to go from a 6 cylinder to a 2 stroke lawn mower. Add that to the churn from existing customers churning because they don’t want the weakest link to be access from a company in bankruptcy and you have a good idea of windstream future
WIN has no fiber assets, they are all owned by UNITI.
"Yes and No, Chapter 11 buys us a few more years."
Zayo will be scooped up soon. Same with the valuable fiber WIN has - it will be sold in pieces, the other parts will be auctioned off to the lowest bidder.
I wouldn't stick around to find out
Yes and No, Chapter 11 buys us a few more years. The landline business is dead in the long term. If you are a cloud provider (Amazon), 5G wireless (Vz / ATT) , or fiber transport (Zayo) you will have a future. We are none of those things and never will be.
The frame of the company might pull thru. I have always thought they were looking to become a data storage/cloud platform provider who happens to offer some remote software applications for business. Work force roughly cut in half mainly data techs and engineers. They will shed some office buildings as well. Just a thought.
If it's the same ole good ole boy management structure with the same ole baggage post bankruptcy then it's the same ole sad business and chapter 7 isn't too far away.
Game over. Top line management keeps pumping up the base on Stream. Low level management knows it’s over ... and the workers are just hanging on to collect a paycheck while it last.
