Lots of information points to tomorrow as the day. HR is prepping for a big day tomorrow. We can't stop the events, but we can make it harder on management. Word has it they will have a tough time getting through all of the layoffs in 1 day. Work from home or call in sick tomorrow to make it even harder. Save yourself the disgrace from the walk of shame.

UP is cutting older, higher paid management. Done carefully to avoid charges of age discrimination, but age discrimination nevertheless. If you have your 30 years but not the age, or wanted to work longer to boost Railroad Retirement and avoid $410 per month healthcare ($5500 deductible), too bad. The good news is that most will get a year's pay to help offset the cost.
No craft people was laid off yesterday. But one supply person was as far as I have herd.
Any layoffs at Jenks today?
In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer ; I have overcome the world. John 16:33
Feb 12th is the day Jenks at NLR gets major cuts all crafts. Prepare now! Biggest layoffs so far come tomorrow per reliable sources at Jenks.
First of all, like someone else said they would just find you the next time you come in. Six months from now, will it make any difference that you put 'em off by one day? Or even a week? And its not like you're going to enjoy that time off.
And second of all... "UP is no longer the holy grail it once was." <== THIS. Whoever said that is right on. When I got my job at the railroad over 30 years ago, people were mighty impressed. Over the last ten years or so? Not that big of a deal. Those incredible benefits turned into just average and are now probably below average. UP is nothing to write home about anymore.
It’s not hard to find a better place. UP is no longer the holy grail it once was. I’m starting to think the ones who are laid off are the ones who are spared because all of those people’s work still exists and needs to be done. Those left to pick up the slack will soon be miserable and overloaded and expected to work nights and weekends with no motivation to do so other than the statement “be happy you still have a job”! Everyone I know who has left and already found jobs is better off, happier and less stressed out with no regrets. Don’t be afraid of getting laid off be afraid of not!
Cowardice has no place among the still-noble ranks at Union Pacific. If tomorrow is my last day at the railroad, I'll leave with my head high. I've been building America, and I've been damned proud to be a part of it.
It should not be a walk of shame. UP is laying off very good, talented, hardworking people. Agreement seem to be getting laid off due to job title, location, or low seniority. Non agreement are being laid off for a variety of reasons unrelated to performance. Hold your head high and head out into the real world....find a better environment. It won't be easy but hopefully in a year you ll look back from a better place.
C,mon man, take a walk on the wild side! Good luck to all including myself! Our yard looks like a ghost town🚂
Sure you can stay home but they’ll just find you the next time you show up.
