Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Stay or go? What are you going to do?

So after the bloodshed and if a survivor, what will you do? Will you look for new opportunities, just stick around with an all new low moral for the company?

For me, it is comfortable just to stay, but don't know. Maybe keep feeding out the resumes and see what bits.

I accepted salary less than fair market value for reason of stability. If I would be treated like a west coast company employee, I would as well make ton sh-- of more money!

I plant to continue working for GM. I enjoy what I am doing and work with a great group of people. BTW, I don't know that these layoffs were age and pay based as some claim. If so, I would have been a perfect candidate- high end of the 7a pay scale, almost 60 yrs old, 24 yrs at GM, GM pension, and I work in a non-critical support role. I have found that it helps to be flexible not let it bother you to work for a with people a lot younger than you and maintain a good attitude and don't be afraid to try/learn something new. I was getting burnt out and cynical but took a lateral to a new job 3yrs ago. One that I wasn't sure I could learn and enjoy and it has been great!

No way I would stay. Not with the current regime intact. Liars and phonies.

I'd start applying. As long as Mott is still the head of IT, there will be more firings. Count on it.

If someone is lucky not to work much and get paid and also got luckier not to get laid off as these were age and salary based, they should stay. But if you actually work and have some talent and do not want to get dragged out of your chair one day, then start looking to other opportunities so after you get your bonus in April you can leave with your head up.
