Not even close. GM laid off 47,000 workers in 2009.

We also did not have thelayoff at that time - so, rumors were flying, people were anxious and nobody had any clue about what was going on - we had no idea about the scope, breadth, depth of the cut...

things are different now...

also 100% true many, many people got zero severance

Disagree...back then, it was security tapping you on the shoulder and walking you out. No HR discussion, no severance for most, no taking belongings with you at that time... definitely more brutal then.
