Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

They are NOT eliminating roles

If they are eliminating roles and not people... Why are job postings for eliminated positions being added to GM careers the same or next day people are walked out. And in many instances very talented people. The media should cover some of these stories so GM Leadership could understand the depth of their own incompetence.

So much what @XvwTNMM-bvm said! Those who are buying the whole "positions are being eliminated, so there was no avoiding losing some of the best people" are very naive. Just do some research and you'll see how easily that is proven to be a lie.

Everyone who was let go, including me, was told our jobs had been eliminated. Since they have programs for under-performing employees (PIP), saying it was our jobs allowed them to avoid being caught up in that.

No, what you're pointing out OP is that is also used as a cover (a lot) to eliminate particular people. But if you're doing the "wrong" thing, your odds of leaving go way up. The gross numbers show it. And you can see the data it in your packet. The numbers are real.

I other words, both are true.

I believe that is an easier way for the director/manager or whoever else is informing you that you are gone. Or at least easier for them to deliver that message.

I had the same thoughts as well as my former director said that my position as well as many others were no longer needed.

Perhaps in some way it prevents adding insult to injury and is a feeble attempt at making the separation process quicker, as bring up the factors used such as performance and ranking would only lot many people to question those factors and potentially lengthen the separation meetings fruitlessly.

The point is once you are in the seat with some leadership person, HR, and the outplacement services person, there is no going back. Their intent is to convey the message and give you all the necessary paperwork and information to get you out as quickly and cleanly as possible.

Perhaps in some way it is better, since opening the door to any kind of potential debate will ultimately make it worse for everyone involved, because at the point it is not like someone can or even would be able to change their minds and spare your termination.

GMIT leadership at the very top knew this would have to happen. He sanctioned insourcing more HP employees than were needed with full knowledge that he would have to clean house in a few years after the dust settled. And I am sure he sleeps just fine at night even though he has devastated families and lives. But don't forget he is a Christian - I thought I heard that in one of the Town Halls (where he was showing pics of his ranch...so out of touch).
