Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

We have no one to blame but ourselves

Maybe if you had been doing your job instead of finding ways to get out of work they’re would be no reason to cut jobs. This has been brewing for years. It’s not like UP suddenly decided to reduce jobs. I came from private sector working my a$$ off everyday. Come here to be told by old heads “slow down your making us look bad kid”. We are as a craft our own worst enemy. We have no one to blame but ourselves. I wish everyone the best of luck.

Not my original post but a repost of a reply to another thread ( @XuLl6Zs-1icm ). Thought that this was something all of us need to think about.

It's not the people but mostly upper management wanting to give to much to share holders

Blaming your fellow employees is not the answer. It’s got nothing to do with anyone’s work ethic, or lack thereof. It’s got EVERYTHING to do with corporate greed. Money. Money. Money. Money. Money.

Re: companies lay people off

True, what you are too dense to understand, however, is that every single time it is a result of failed planning and execution from leadership, not the ranks. This is a 14 billion dollar a year company, waste and failure from leadership at that level is not acceptable and needs condemned by all. Employed there or not.

Its good you worked your a-- off but that’s not the reason for the layoffs. UP doubled their stocks in a year and keeps making more money. The reason for the layoffs is to find a way to make more money and move freight faster. The layoffs is caused by the greediness and careless stockholders who want to do more than just double their stocks in a year. Csx tripled their stocks when they had our C.O.O. working for them and he’s doing the same to UP. More production, less safety, more stockholder money, triple stocks, and less employees is the “2020” plan. If you don’t research before you spit your words out then your not wise and blind. UP paid like what, 12 million dollars to hire our new C.O.O. to triple our stocks(like csx did). That’s our 2020 plan and you are arrogant to not see that!!!

It is about operation ratio. Since putting a freeze on all new hiring, leadership spent multimillion on a single human capital asset that does no part in getting a single car to destination any quicker. As always it is a leadership problem not a crafts problem. You are a brown nosing self important lil troll to repost such a thread knowing nothing of what you attempt to talk about. You would not last a day without being beat down if not hiding behind "anonymous" are a coward and you know it. You really believe you have any value at all in this company or even forum? You don't.

You aren’t speaking for me, I do my job and work hard, I also understand I work FOR the railroad, it’s their company and they will run it however they want regardless of my opinion. These changes were going to happen no matter what, we can speculate why, but the fact remains it isn’t our company. I try to focus on what I can do to improve my situation, it’s not Trump or UPRR or anyone else who affects my life most, it’s me.

No it’s not lance. I am a 15 year carman. I am speaking for myself. I’m speaking of my experience not yours. Lots of waste on the railroad. If you are honestly a good hard worker you should have no problems finding employment after UP. Many companies out there hiring you’ll just have to work at those places. Sorry if what I say offends you, but truth hurts.
