Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

How to deal with this?

Any ideas on how to deal with a manager who waits until five minutes before I have to clock out to give me a task that will require much longer than those five minutes? Of course, I'm still expected to clock out when I was supposed to AND finish the task. This isn't a fluke, either, it's been happening for weeks now.

Any thoughts?

It's all about "reasonable expectations". That manager is unreasonable. If they don't get it, "Open Door" with the Store Manager. Before I address any hourly associate, I check my watch to see how much time they should have and then verify with them that they are not on break or lunch. Walmart teaches ASMs very minimal skills concerning associate interaction. I became an ASM to try to protect associates from bad ASMs, COs, SMs and even MMs. Most associates are kept in the dark about how much power they truly wield. I educate (not mansplain) as many as I can so they can comfortably advocate for themselves. I also have True North on speed dial. I despise salaried managers who stomp around waiving their badge in everyone's face. I'll call Ethics on anyone....if it is the right thing to do.

To all posting complaints about manaement harrassment, let me assure you from personal experience: unless you're of some protected class, or unless a manager really screws up and leaves themselves wide open to trouble of their own, if a manager wants to get you---they will. These 'people' , market on down to cap leaders, are all thicker than lawyers and politicians. If you're getting cases put on you, touch up that resume and get out of Dodge.

Remind them that your end of shift is in 5 minutes and the “no Overtime” policy if that applies to your position. Or, tell your manager that you will do what you can , but your shift ends in 5 minutes and you will have to pass it down to the next shift to finish.
