Confirmed that we are -200 people away from target for tax incentives. Two things, if we don’t meet this there will be layoffs at Malta, and bonuses and raises will be impacted(hence not having rating and AIP at same time). Best of luck

Most of the new hires though are for technicians, preferably with little to no experience to lower labor cost. I think this is just to fill the numbers to ensure NY State keeps subsidizing them based on employee numbers. The higher cost, experienced and qualified engineers have already been purged back in August. Right now typically a technician or janitorial background is all that is needed for an engineering position to keep costs minimal. Management of course continues as before. GF is recognized as an industrywide failure, a company that cannot deliver even when they have guaranteed customers.

There will be no layoffs at the Malta site. Rumors are site specific.

Dont worry everyone there is no layoff and in fact we are hiring like crazy to prepare for the big ramp this year. I'm sure you heard the news that AMD signed a big wafer contract with GF fab8. Its sad that there are still angry people in this world who relish starting nasty rumors to satisfy their own jealous rages. These people really need to move on with their life and find a new job and just go away.

They can't shed the high paid employees as easily through attrition. Layoffs are needed for that. Especially now that the expectation has been set repeatedly that waiting for layoff will earn a huge severance package. Long tenure or band 10 and up (they get 4 weeks/yr) will think twice about leaving freely. I know many who waited till last summer, got hit, cashed in, had new jobs almost immediately after layoff, and banked $100-150k from the layoff. New hires are low dollar replacements in the areas that suffer constant attrition and not that relevant to the discussion.

Probably the same "smart" ones that predicted the multiple layoffs in November

How did you hear that this was confirmed? Malta and many other sites are posting tons of jobs everyday. They can shed any number of jobs they want to cut with attrition and avoid the costs of a layoff and the bad press. This doesnt make any sense and Ive not heard anything, not even a rumor.
