Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Ex-GM as of three weeks ago - offering hope

Howdy all. I was a GM IT employee who was picked up from HP in the 'lift and shift' six years ago. Prior to that, I worked on the GM account at EDS and then HP since 2006. I was in the VDOC. Some of you may know me.

When I heard about the layoffs, I started casually looking around, and a good friend who is an SQL developer at a company in Pontiac for about five years recommended that I apply at the company he works for. I did it mostly as a favor to him - but I got an interview and they ended up offering me a really great job; I left GM on good terms in January. I know I passed up any potential severance or the Team GM bonus, but I felt I had to take advantage of the opportunity and I'm glad I did.

I've lost jobs before, I'm no spring chicken. I know it s---s, and I'm sorry. I do not know what is permitted here in terms of making suggestions, but my new employer is hiring IT workers, and I'm very pleased with the pay/benefits, plus it's a great place to work near my house. If there was a way permitted for me to put you in touch with me, I would be happy to put your resume in where I work now.

For those of you who know the rules here, let me know in comments how I can correctly help; I don't want to break the rules, but if I can help any ex-GM IT folks, I would like to do it if I can.

In reply to those interested in contacting me, I have taken the advice given and set up a new gmail account. Please feel free to send email to yetanothersensei at gmail. If you do not want to send me your resume with your personal data, I completely get it and I'll be happy to just provide you with the information for the employer I work for and you can take it from there. I just want to be helpful in any way I can.

There is nothing in Terms of Use of TheLayoff preventing you from saying that you hire and you share your contact info. They do prohibit excessive posting so you may want to limit this to a thread or two - My suggestion is that you do not post your real contact info here - set up a new gmail address and collect inquires there - once you know that the job seeker is for real you can reveal your true email address and contact info

I know which company you’re at, we just had a GM IT person leave our group and he started there in November last year. Sounds like a good company to work for.

For those of you who are ex-GM IT and came from HP in the big lift and shift six years ago, you know the building where this company is located because you used to work in it. The industry is not automotive, it's more related to housing.

Well I certainly can, but I don't know what the rules here are. I'm not a recruiter and I also don't want to abuse the system here.

It can also be helpful if there is some way to get in touch with me directly, because I have an employee portal to submit referrals through - I get a bonus if you get hired and you get quicker attention due to being employee-referred.

However, you can also just apply at my company if you prefer - I'd be thrilled if everyone ended up with a good job out of this. Bonus is nice - but not my purpose here.

Not sure of the rules, but would you be willing to say what area? Big thank you for providing some hope and congrats on your new position.
