Howdy all. I was a GM IT employee who was picked up from HP in the 'lift and shift' six years ago. Prior to that, I worked on the GM account at EDS and then HP since 2006. I was in the VDOC. Some of you may know me.
When I heard about the layoffs, I started casually looking around, and a good friend who is an SQL developer at a company in Pontiac for about five years recommended that I apply at the company he works for. I did it mostly as a favor to him - but I got an interview and they ended up offering me a really great job; I left GM on good terms in January. I know I passed up any potential severance or the Team GM bonus, but I felt I had to take advantage of the opportunity and I'm glad I did.
I've lost jobs before, I'm no spring chicken. I know it s---s, and I'm sorry. I do not know what is permitted here in terms of making suggestions, but my new employer is hiring IT workers, and I'm very pleased with the pay/benefits, plus it's a great place to work near my house. If there was a way permitted for me to put you in touch with me, I would be happy to put your resume in where I work now.
For those of you who know the rules here, let me know in comments how I can correctly help; I don't want to break the rules, but if I can help any ex-GM IT folks, I would like to do it if I can.
