Do managers know who is on the let-go list? Do they know who is about to get called up to those dreaded conference rooms? My manager seems confident that no one in his group is getting let go but I'm not convinced.

No. All managers do not know who is getting cut on their team.
Some managers are part of the reaper crew but many are not.
They forced the managers to walk out other teams, not their own team. I saw a lot of pained faces. I think a lot of those managers will be next.
In PHX, all managers know. They are the ones who have been responsible for showing up at desks. It seems in other locations, there was hired helped.
My manager was informed the night before who all was being laid off.
Some managers may know. Many know nothing , including their own status.

Sometimes they are included in the decisions of who is let go and sometimes not. It all depends is my vague answer. But then again, in my experience at my previous company who did the same thing GM is going through now, whenever leadership's lips were moving we knew they were lying. It was called a RIF (Reduction in Force) for us.
After a huge RIF we'd have an all-hands meeting with leadership telling us they are done. Then next week? Another round. And another meeting. Repeat ad nauseum. The boy that cried wolf syndrome.
Yes all managers know.
which group? in which building
