Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

"Leadership" told us before all this happened that this would be performance-based.

What's going on? Why are they laying off star performers?

I hear some lower paid new hires who didn't even work long enough to get a performance review were let go too. There's no logic. It's got to be random. If it was bloat, why would they have hired the new hires in the first place?

Makes sense. Higher performers make more, so they're escorted out. So, essentially GM is keeping the least qualified and lowest paid performers within their teams. Seems logical.

Guess that's why they somehow think they're professional grade.

That's what I suspected. I negotiated a high salary on the way in (same as others offered). This always gives your scalp a higher profile.

The people that know nothing and the slackers that DO nothing, they get promoted. The hard workers get so slammed and over whelmed they have no life. Good luck to us all.

You have to realize not everyone posting here really knows what was going on. Our manager explicitly told us these layoffs were targeting bloated groups and were salary based, not headcount or performance. Then I see people on here claiming they're safe due to high CAP scores. Every person I know personally that has gotten laid off was a knowledgeable, high performer. A lot of people I think are just posting what they hope is the truth to try to validate it in their own minds.

It is performance based. People who perform well and get paid more due to raises are being removed.

I totally agreed. We are in shock to see top performers gone. Is it random pick to be fair to the low performers or what?

Noticed the same thing - wondering why this is the case considering all the low performing douches available to send elsewhere.

GM must demonstrate equal treatment of slackers and contributors. Brady is equal to Kaepernick, right?
