I am not an employee with GM but my husband is. We moved to Arizona from mid west for his IT job with Gm. He has been with Gm for 4 years and worked as a contractor for 2 yrs with Gm before that. Even though he was amongst the very few in his team to get exceeds in appraisal it didn’t come handy. I cannot look into his eyes as I know he really didn’t see this coming. We just bought a home and had a baby. Worst part is he is on an H1 b visa and now he gets 60 days to look for another company to sponsor his visa or we go back to home country after 15 years of him studying and working here and finally calling it home. I don’t work as I didn’t have work permit when I first came as a dependent and later got critically ill. Now even though we will have health insurance for some More time. It’s not for long. What a day !!! What a day!!

I’m so sorry.
The outplacement firm GM used in 2009 sponsored several career fairs. In this job market, I'm certain many excellent employers will be soliciting resumes there. Pray, hope, and don't worry.
I’m surprised he got a H1B sponsorship. HR told me that they only do TN. I guess that was a load of c-ap...
All the best... I am so sorry you have to go through this. Visa or not, I have empathy for all people who lost jobs. Both my parents were immigrants, they fled from Galicia during Franko's regime. God bless..
Having H1B is tough but he should have a recruiting company sponsoring him ASAP so he can find a contracting job and be place any where. Good luck.
Same boat. I am a citizen though. Baby on the way. We have kids. We are scrambling for me to sponsor him. Our friends were less fortunate last year. They didn't have the GC sponsorship option and had to leave the country. They had to leave their car and possessions behind. Thankfully they had good friends to disburse the items and send the money back. They play with peoples lives too much without so much as a second thought.
I would like the negative voters to explain why they are doing so. I can’t help but feel it’s because my husband is on work visa.
@XtooE1Q-sno Health insurance stays for 2 more months
God Bless you and your family! So so so sorry. Remember things happen for a reason.
How long does the health insurance stay for? Also , what happens to the HSA?

I cannot help but wonder in what mind someone can downvote this post. Hope you fear God.
Thanks. Appreciate it much
I'm really sorry for you. I hope your husband finds something. I heard they are working on outplacement to help people find new jobs - maybe he will find something through that.
I just want to say I am sorry for your suffering. May God bless your husband with employment.
