Anyone sign a non-compete clause as part of getting severance? Did they bring up any reference to something you may have signed at hiring?

Non-compete clauses are fairly standard, but rarely enforced outside of executive level or extremely specialized positions. Detroit may be different with so many auto companies close together. Still, it cost s a lot of money to bring cases to court. Unless you are going to cost GM many hundreds of thousands of dollars, they won't bother.
No, but in the severance packet, there is a section that clearly states they do not intend to rehire you, nor do they intend to allow you to return as a contractor or work for a supplier. Now that is is c r a p!
I think most signed a non-compete when hired on.
Those are notoriously difficult for a former to enforce. You have a right to earn a living, and most firms know that bullying you, after terminating you, won't play well with either judge or jury.
