After lying for 3 months saying no one on our team was getting fired, they started laying off people today. Ren Cen - downtown - finance staff - 30 plus years - the story about them giving you a cheap blue bag to carry your stuff out in is true (but no GM logo). Bunch of finance staff supposed to go today. FYI - you get to keep your company car thru the end of feb.

Did some crayon-eating mo--n throw darts on the org charts while wearing a blindfold....none of this seems remotely logical, especially with the managers absolutely clueless about who it will be on the team. Heck my manager is worried he might be sh-- canned next....

It was insane decision I took to GM exactly 90 days ago. I got laid off yesterday. The big question is what they hired if they had to fire me, basically they hired me to kick out. Does it make sense to anyone? Kicked out with blue cheap bag. Now I hate GM like anything.

Well, they got you to stay until they decided who they wanted to keep, making it their choice and not yours.
Surprised anybody gave you assurances. They shouldn't have. I also work for Finance and never heard any kind of assurances that are group wouldn't be included. In fact quite the opposite, we heard that the managers did not know who was included so it could be anybody.
Maybe they didn't know, in which case they should never have assured you. Best to you, though. I'm sure you haven't fully absorbed it yet. Have a drink tonight and start your new job in the morning: namely, taking care of yourself and planning your future.
