Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

I was purged in 2009 after about 8 years at GM. We were told to be in the office that week and I received an invite to meet with my director. It was humiliating after 8 years of the highest performance ratings...I don't blame my director as he had no say in it and was visibly upset. They gave me a few months severance, asked for my phone (which I didn't give but they remotely wiped it later, also reported it stolen to verizon even though it was my own device), gave me my legal docs and escorted me out. I had them ship my stuff. It was really hard, but life moves on, and 10 years later I have a way better job. I miss some of the people I worked with, but the culture was awful and I didn't really realize it until I was gone. If you are cut, try not to kill your self-esteem, its not about you, its about profit...thats it. And the legal docs, if they do it the same, they are pretty tight. I signed mine pretty quickly.
