Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Great Workplace Pilot

Walmart is running a proof of concept for almost the past year on this program called "Great Workplace" in two Supercenter stores. The structure is as follows:

1 Store Manager

1 Developmental Store Manager (Co-Manager)

3 Business Owners (1 Fresh, 1 Grocery, 1 GM) (Co-Manager Level)

3 Business Leads (1 Home and Softlines, 1 Frontend and 1 Overnights)

3 ASMs (1 ACCM, 1 AP ASM, 1 eCommerce ASM)

Team Leads (Level D + $2 Differential)

Certified Training Associates (Level D)

Associates (Level A and B)

Divided into three teams:

Prepare Team (10pm - 7am) Unload all trucks by 5 am and stock priority outs sorted by the FAST unloader, set mods and complete maintenance. Store stays open with minimal front end coverage. Run by 1 Overnight ASM or Team Lead.

Stock Team (4 AM - 1 PM) - Run the availability process

Serve Team (7 AM - 11 PM) - Stock picks, downstock and provide customer service.

Takes 6 weeks to implement. ASMs and DMs interview for these new positions as there are less of them. If not selected, they must find a new position or leave company.

This program WILL be rolling out company wide eventually as the cost savings to the company are huge.

They will roll this out and in 5 years roll out a new program. Its an endless cycle. The thing walmart has never understood is no 2 stores are the same because people and communities vary. You can run them all the same but it why you get different results in different regions.

Ever since Sam passed away his family and the board have done nothing but run the company into the ground. Looks like they want to run the stores on a very minimal skeleton crew. Good luck with that. Before long there will be no more Wal-Mart's or no one to work them.

@ iwf, I remember those days! I was a gm unloader, and back then that basically meant I was also a part time o.n. stocker, as we were never allowed to leave until all of consumables was ran (yes....that job s---ed gorilla balls). But those staffing numbers you mentioned, man, that has definitely changed over time, hasn't it? People were happy tho, for the most part----you weren't overwhelmed and could actually get things done. It's a shadow of all that today.

I don't know about you, but this model is laden with supervisory and managerial type jobs also. I don't see where the cost savings are. "D" level with a $2 differential = $19.50 base. When I first joined the company, the o/n shift unloaded everything PLUS stocked freight. The hours were 2230 - 0700 with a half hour lunch. We had 35-40 o/n associates scheduled daily, including o/n cashiers and CSMs. Less than efficient but didn't feel broken down by the end of the week!

What is Walmart coming to? I certainly believe they want all long term associates gone from the company. Give us all a severance package and we be gone. Sam Walton I'm so sorry for what they have done to your company.

So CAP2 and overnights merge to become glorified unloaders who will have to unload GM, Grocery, FDD & Meats/Produce before 5am. More work for sh--ty Paygrade A wages and even worse hours. Good luck selling that garbage.

NHM is running the great workplace pilot as well. Dropping down to 1 ASM, renamed a "Deputy" or "Operation Manager."
