Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Great Workplace Pilot

Walmart is running a proof of concept for almost the past year on this program called "Great Workplace" in two Supercenter stores. The structure is as follows:

1 Store Manager

1 Developmental Store Manager (Co-Manager)

3 Business Owners (1 Fresh, 1 Grocery, 1 GM) (Co-Manager Level)

3 Business Leads (1 Home and Softlines, 1 Frontend and 1 Overnights)

3 ASMs (1 ACCM, 1 AP ASM, 1 eCommerce ASM)

Team Leads (Level D + $2 Differential)

Certified Training Associates (Level D)

Associates (Level A and B)

Divided into three teams:

Prepare Team (10pm - 7am) Unload all trucks by 5 am and stock priority outs sorted by the FAST unloader, set mods and complete maintenance. Store stays open with minimal front end coverage. Run by 1 Overnight ASM or Team Lead.

Stock Team (4 AM - 1 PM) - Run the availability process

Serve Team (7 AM - 11 PM) - Stock picks, downstock and provide customer service.

Takes 6 weeks to implement. ASMs and DMs interview for these new positions as there are less of them. If not selected, they must find a new position or leave company.

This program WILL be rolling out company wide eventually as the cost savings to the company are huge.

Cap 1 & 2 will still be there but a reduction in hours and be in soft lines to work freight and cap bins and work picks.

I you have ever be coached you won’t even be considered for a team lead position you will have to find another position within the company or step down to a level a or b associate but your pay will be locked for a year then I think you fall back to the maximum for that pay level but don’t know for sure.

I am a dm for dairy and 20yr associate and take pride in what I do I keep the cooler clean and organized by category so I can go to a bin and find anything and keep thing rotated the way it is supposed to be first in first out and don’t create partials other wise it is a disaster you tell cap 1 & 2 don’t stock it unless the full case will go out don’t have a lot of space in cooler to create partials every day because they never get worked first before the new freight then everything is out of rotation. They just don’t care and do it anyways. Also in my store we have back fill doors so you can stock the shelves from inside the cooler like I do the majority of my shift is spent in the cooler to keep the rotation correct and now they want to put teams in there it’s going to become a nightmare there’s going to be tons of partials and so much stuff that’s going to outdate and wal marts going to have a lawsuit on there hands. Then there is I have vendors I deal with and have to place the order myself twice a week and when on vacation if the vendor never received order for the week management always told them send whatever he order last time not knowing I don’t order it unless I need it Based on my on hands and sales.

Greater Workplace??? Just another way to get rid of long term dedicated associates and replace them with lower paid associates. New associates are given better shifts and concessions for child care or transportation issues, while long term associates are constantly being pushed to do more work to make up for the lazy and ignorant new associates. Many or all being hired without d–g or background checks. Truly a GREATER WORKPLACE.

35 years and no respect for my loyalty. I worked hard for my level of pay over the years and now there are no positions available without taking a huge pay cut that I cannot afford!

This layout sounds so stupid the stock team layout for shifts is very ridiculous. The roles are even more stupid “business owners” sounds professional for a unprofessional place like Walmart. So pretty much you guys want to bring back the attendance policy and stop waiving occurrences for associates so you guys can move on with these messed up changes with the company instead of worrying about associates health. I rather take a Severance Package then to stay with a company that doesn’t appreciate hard workers but worship and reward lazy workers. There’s no point of switching up the company when amazon already beat you to the trillion dollar mark.

This business structure gives the employees very little incentive to put in extra effort. Job performance doesn't matter unless they are applying for a management position that very seldom is available. Employee morale is extremely low and turnover is huge. It may save Walmart money now but it is proving to be costly in employee turnover rates and unhappy employees affect customer service and all other tasks they are involved in.

Walmart as a whole is ruining associates lives. The today walmart higher uppers dont care about associates like Mr Sam did. It's sad how awful we as people are treated, our opinions really dont matter because if so they would have done a meeting of sorts and got opinions from the hourly, who do all the work, before implementing this ridiculous changes

I notice that our salaried management team has fired, coached and given a ton of bad evaluations in preparation for gwp to hit our store. They are rigging themselves up for success and setting all department managers up for failure. Ethically, this is illegal, as is violates workers rights. This is why they fear the word "union" walmart destroys small town businesses to be the only choice for employment, now is letting so many people go. Get ready small town america, we're all about to get shafted. Boycott walmart!

Walmart's GWP is ALL about one thing. MONEY. Money for the shareholders and upper management.

There was an article that talked about this GWP done by The Washington Post. At the end of the article, there was this, which really had nothing to do with the article and everything to do with the regular associates of Walmart:

Walmart reported on Tuesday that it expects fiscal 2021 earnings of $5 to $5.15 a share, below Wall Street forecasts of $5.21 a share.

Shares of Walmart were up about 1% at $119.08 in trading on Tuesday.

It's all about money at Walmart and not about it's hourly associates!!!

It is time that we all banned together and banned walmart and brought this company and so many other companies like it - down! Sure, I need cheap. I can go to Aldi's. Sure, I have food allergies. I can make do with rice. Sure, there are employees I want to be able to keep their jobs, but not at the expence of those rich bleeps getting richer and the poorer getting poorer! If with less employees, they would pay everyone left a better than living wage, then maybe I can understand this. However, DISABLED PEOPLE ARE TOLD TO GO HANG THEMSELVES! No one will hire us, and those who do, try to find ways to fire us, lay us off, or get rid of us all for the sake of a billions of dollars income for the evil rich person who is so greedy that we need laws changed!

Where I live, the evil government decided to raise living wage but not implement until 2025 5 yeras after that will no longer be a living wage! I want them to face MY reality and live in MY shoes and then scream when they can't even afford a roof over their heads!

I regret deciding to work here. I left a 10 year career that I loved to come here for more money, to not even be placed where I was hired for.

Myself and another brand new ASM are covering the largest sections of the store, while the two more tenured have less than 10 employees each.

This is, hands down, the absolute worst company I have EVER worked for, and I have worked for some pretty bad companies.

The lack of respect for the individual, which is something they promote as a core belief, is nothing but a joke. Respect for the individual is having some semblance of understanding when something is going on for them at home, not telling them that 'we have a business to run' when they have a small child in the hospital, or a dying grandparent. They expect long hours, and for us to push our hourly associates to work harder, or get out. I don't think this is how a successful business should treat people, whether they are a customer or an associate.

I would like to know when great workplace will be fully implemented in the whole company. I am a 30 year associate and I am having health problems. I would be thrilled to have my job eliminated and get a severance package. Does anyone know if they still do this ?

New "Workplace" is being implemented in my store now. Goodbye Dept. Managers, Cap Supervisors and CSM's. We can apply for new positions as Leads or Academy Trainers or transfer for an equivalent position (cannot take lesser position), if not chosen for the few new positions posting, or cannot find equivalent position, our last day with Walmart will be March 21, 2020.

As a short term associate I realize the problems that hard working associates encounter every day. They are faced with managers on their case about productivity when in reality the expectations are too high. They are trying to help customers who are upset about too much stocking in the aisles and at the same time meet a quota set by who only knows. My theory is management should be able to meet the quota set for the hourly or take another look. Also, management should not be any better to work and get dirty just because they have a title. If a job needs to be done then everyone should pitch in. Everyone should be a team player regardless of salary or position. Let's show appreciation for the hourly associates who have invested a lot of time and effort in a company. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians!!! Turn it around and see what a difference it can make. Let the community see more workers than walkers.

GREAT WORK PLACE THERE CALLING THIS ARE THEY KIDDING I think this is totally disrespect to the workers and mgmt. I think it is awuful they are forcing people to leave no choice and in a disrespectful way. PEOPLE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO REAPLY for a job they already have and forced out as we all know favoritism goes in say goodby to walmat because this will put them under for sure because THEY FORGET ITS YOUR LOAYL OLDER ASSOCAITES ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT CARE THESE ARE THE ONES YOU PUSH OUT so wake up because if the business goes under you greddy money people will go under as well. again shame shame for putting decent people out of work and stop calling it great work place because you have to wrong text in which you use this phrase.

So since their saving so much money associates should get a decent raise to compensate for being there 10 plus years and barely makes what a new person makes coming straight off the street now when I see a person making $11.50 and new joe comes in making $11 how messed up is that that is a disrespectful rude slap in the face for us long timers where is Walmart’s respect for their loyal employees... where ???

10 years with this company. Within the first 6 months i went from cashier to DM over grocery (when grocery was ALL of grocery, not split up 5 ways) i thought the company had potential to become a good career. I learned as much as i could, managed as many areas as i could and even became a csm just so i could learn how to run the front end. It took 2 months with this new system in place for me to step down. Never had i moved backwards, a couple latteral moves but never down. So now im a stocker. Just like a new hire and nowhere to go because there arent any positions left to go to. Before when you would start to get burned out there was always a department manager position somewhere in the store you could go to. Not anymore. Youre either a management or a grunt. The best employees have all left the company because they were having to do 10 jobs at once and not having the satisfaction of being able to complete any of them. The training new hires get is rediculous so none of them understand what to do or how the system works. So the same mistakes keep getting made and more people who get it leave cuz theyre tired of being the ones having to fix it everyday on top of doing their own job. I hope these real time statistics go to someone who sees the big picture and understands what it means. At store level alot of the management shouldnt of become managers to begin with but they watch each others backs when it comes to corporate. When my store gets a visit from someone higher up the managers are getting text messages from other stores letting them know who is coming, how many are coming, what they looked at, when they left their store and where theyre going next. It gives management enough of a heads up to scramble everyone to those areas real quick to try and fix everything and make it look like everything is running smooth without problems. Smoke and mirrors. Higher ups dont get a realistic view of whats really happening or real problems with the store. Management is just covering it all uo so they keeo their job but then problems continue to go unnoticed so they dont get fixed. I filled out an application with a different company for the first time in 10 years. Ive lost all faith in the company and all hope that it will get better. Im hoping to be gone before they close for good and have to compete with everyone that will be looking for a job too.

We don't even have handhelds that work at our store. The Wifi is so bad that we have to revert back to using the ancient handhelds that didn't need a lot of wifi. And at our store morale is very low. Customers walk all the way to the back of the store looking for an associate to help them in the front of the store because the scheduler says we don't need any morning associates.

They took our Personnel staff which hurt the entire store. They complain about turnover and then let go of the most important, the most knowledgeable and respected people in the entire store.
