Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Life After GM

Dear Friends,

I was laid off from GM in 2009, being the youngest on the team- I had just gotten a promotion in 2008!!! This was the era of managers not keeping proper performance reviews etc..so what did they decide to do? Lay off the youngest member of the team!

Just know of course I had my struggles after that..the economy was in a tank, no jobs..I thought what if I had done this better, what if I had done that better? I would question myself on WHY ME? Why is that person still there and I'm not? Yes, this is so normal.

Well I'm here to tell you its nothing about you! Hold your head high with confidence. You will be ok..you will find another job, and you will just look back and say..hey this is a little bump on the road for me in the true tenure of life.

As far as me- I did find another job, and my coworkers and management are excellent...Yes I too was scared...is there life after GM? Well there most certainly is my friends. Don't lose hope..you are in the best economy yet..nothing like what is was when I was let go in 2009.

Just know I feel for you all and know what you have been going through..I know..I feel the pain you are feeling because I too was there. Lots of Love and Blessings to you friends..Remember Chin Up- NO COMPANY can EVER- EVER Define you!!!

Trust me - years from now (maybe sooner) you'll look back at parting company with GM as a complete blessing. After what they did to my company, I wouldn't p!$$ on a GM car if it was on fire in my driveway. So glad to be employed outside of the automotive industry now.

Just remember that “You are not defined just by your job”. You are more than that, and like you said, there IS life after GM. Don’t be bitter, have faith and do your best!!
