I cannot say this enough, start looking for external opportunities as soon as you can. This doesn't mean that you will be targeted this time around, but there will always be another round - and there will always be another round. Life goes by fast and the longer you wait, the lower your job currency drops and the harder it will be to land a job - any job. You need to look out for you now as GM absolutely will not. Good performer, bad performer doesn't matter for the most part. There are people in my old group who didn't have basic Excel skills, WFH all of the time, but were close with management - think they got let go? Nope.
