Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

We've watched it countless times over two decades

We've watched it countless times over two decades, people walked out like criminals. Box in hand, walk you out to your car. I guess reality hits people sooner than others. There is a reason why some people are advocates against GM for life. These actions were there well before Rick Wagners time.

The best thing you can ever do, is to never forget. NEVER forget, and vote with your wallet.

I think most people can understand when business is bad, people lose their jobs.

But the more CEOs and their senior execs make, the harder it is to accept that “I’m losing my job so CEO can post higher profits to improve their bonus”

And that’s what it is.

The Canadian autoworker union is right.

GM makes 75% of their profits in the US and Canada, yet they build more and mor cars in slave wage Mexico and close US and Canadian factories.

And by the way... the “autonomous/electric” strategy is loser.

Yes, these will play a supplemental role in the future. But the vast majority of private cars and trucks will be motor vehicles.

It’s a niche market, not mass profits

One thing people have to realize is that you are hired for your skills to do a job. When they don’t have new programs and when they don’t need that many people layoffs are the natural result of that Pedia sure it’s hard on families and the stress is high. The next step Here’s how do you bounce back from this setback. What is your game plan. What actions are you taking to land that next job.

The way GM has dragged this on for 3 months, then now dragging it on over a few days and picking people execution style... I don't see how they cant be sued for emotional distress. I've seen layoffs at other companies before and it was swift and non emotional.

This is embarrassing for everyone and the fact Randy Mott says they thought through this and are putting people first either means he's an id--t or he thinks we are id--ts.

I had respected Mary Barra, but her approving this process makes me doight they can do anything correctly.

The next time GM wants a bailout -- because they will -- tell your congressional representative "HELL NO". Backwards-thinking, poorly managed, entrenched leadership will drive it into the ground again. Don't help this company with tax payer dollars.

Well said. But really will this become another footnote in GM history? I suspect that is the case.

Indeed. Learn never to purchase the products of those that lay you off. Thank you for the advice. Got it.

Ahhh.....holding grudges only hurt YOU. Best thing is to forgive and put it behind you, but LEARN from it. Suppose the goal here for most folks is job security even though you are really only guaranteed today. It's important to have some sense of job security so you can plan things involving your personal life (expenses) as well. Real tough in today's world to do this.
