Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

GM thinks it's Tesla LOL

GM thinks it can rebrand itself as a cutting edge EV company. The thing is, you have legacy car designers who love putting out boxes on wheels. The cars resemble rolling pieces of brick and not attractive designs. GM has always built boxes on wheels and that's ok.....but don't try to pretend you can change overnight.

GM is in the best position to actually deliver autonomous taxis that will rake in massive $$$. The focus on safety is key. Even if they are slower, if they cut out the driver and set up infrastructure of their own to charge the company vehicles just outside of dense cities they can deliver uber/lyft-like functionality at a fraction of the cost.

GM can't even get consumers to yrust the product they have been building for 100 years. They will NEVER trust tgem with new technology. RIP GM

GM is more like Harley Davidson than Tesla. Over priced, over valued. GM only wants to sell +$60,000 vehicles. Henry Fords concept of building cars the employees can buy is not possible with their vehicles. I hope their vision of autonomous and electric is correct.

They will never be able to catch up Tesla in any way. Where do they have the network of super chargers. The bulk of EV produced by these guys are 1/10th (or even less) of Tesla . It will be at least 2030 by the time they have 5 functioning EVs. In 2014 or 2015 there was a news that these guys will have few thousand Autonomous Escalades running on the streets by 2018/19. No way close to the target. You can see the similar target achievements with their new goals on EVs.

Marrys got her panties all twisted in a bunch , it's a tech bubble and she is absolutely trying to dump the baggage as the other poster pointed out. Will GM fail? Probably ! They had an advantage along time ago but yet again blew it. GM will merge with a company and it's not going to be another automotive company.

Just go drive a Tesla for a week, you will figure out the whole thing...

There is good reason why Tesla is not buying a smaller established car company, they do not want the baggage - they dont want dealers, parts, unions, oil industry relationships... they dont want 'this is how things have always been done' mindset, it's all baggage...

for the same reason google has a 700 billion market cap and IBM is at 100 B...

We need to do something radical like Microsoft did (use legacy to transition into the cloud) or we'll die just like IBM... i think they are trying to do it now but i am not sure they'll be able to do it.

ford is trying to do the same thing. vw/audi too...

i have no clue what asian folks are doing, we'll see...

also, this was recorded on jan 29, so they are coming after suvs and trucks too, we are talking 600 mile range here and 1000 hp equivalents, check it out:

They want GM to be like tesla with highly inflated market cap.... then they can bail, merge, cash in their stock options and go work in tech..... ore something like that.

GM has plenty of great car designers. and they're working on building the tsla like cult that got tsla to where they are.
