Why not just get this over Thursday and Friday without dramatizing and hyping it so much? Really want to watch the superbowl in peace and not be worried about things out of my control. Monday is a really bad day to do this sort of thing and the reason most sane companies do it close to the weekend. Go figure...

In Canada it is forbidden by law to do this on a Friday. They want employees to have some semblance of a week to try and spring back. May GM's ultimate demise be as painfully long and protracted as the execution of this layoff. They will be an also ran in the annals of automotive history a hundred years from now.
