Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Social Media

If you lost your job, how would you discuss the situation on social media? Would you ever post anything publicly? Be aware that any severance package will come with terms that you can’t say anything derogatory about GM during any period you are receiving severance pay so keep cool.

Acceptance of the severance package prohibits you from posting negative social media comments towards the company.

Regardless of the gag clause, you'd be a fool to publicly trash a former employer while looking for new employment. Be smart, people.

GM did say it was performance based. But we all know it’s not.

Trash talk here. Talk positively (if at all) on your social profiles. "I learned a lot at GM, but GM over hired and I was part of the cuts. I look forward to possibly working with GM in the future, but for now looking for new opportunities". No company is perfect...Look at all the backlash Google & Facebook are getting now from their own employees. But don't scream out "I'm a debbie downer!"

GM is doing us a favor by not publicly saying this is performance based. This allows you to save face. If GM said cuts are performance based, you'll be extra scrutinized.

What for? What does it get you? Layoffs not only happen, but are necessary sometimes for the continued success of a business. GM at least has a severance plan, when HP would lay people off it was a humbling walk and not much more.

Best not to talk publicly and negatively about previous employers on social media, especially not when job searching. No point in doing it at all though, never know when that could bite you.

If you can post anonymously then go for it. Otherwise, think twice about doing it. It reflects poorly on you if you show off your bitterness and might bite you I'm the a--. A potential employer might be checking it out and could be a dealbreaker and not get the job.

I’ve been at GM less than a year so I probably won’t get sh--.

If that’s the case I will go to social media. GM has been the worst place I have worked at. Don’t get me wrong though, I contribute for what i am paid, but this place is going down the sh--ter more likely sooner than later.
