Leaving GM even if not laid off

For those of you who plan to leave GM even if you don't get laid off. When are you planning on leaving? Will you secure a position first while working or quit after the bonus and then focus on finding a job. This was my first job out of college and I'm trying to decide when to leave if I don't get laid off.

Secure a job first before quitting, if you're not laid off. You're more attractive to potential employers if you are currently employed. Also, you have no idea how long the job search might take if you decide to quit before you get a new one. As much as you want to leave immediately, don't be dumb. make smart choices and think logically, especially if this is your only first work experience after college.

New college hire, just got fully vested.

Absolutely I am jumping ship. I realized how poor the company is based on the quality some of the level 6, 7 people that I met. Worked with some so called experienced "bi developers" and "data engineers" and knew this wasn't a good company. It just lacks the talent that a normal cutting edge company would have. Tech company? Gimme a break.

I had a feeling this was going to happen, so all of 2018 I started saving my money. I'm planning on quitting and take some time looking for the next opportunity. I have enough money saved to be jobless for a long time. I would have jumped ship two years ago but I was not yet vested in my 401K so I chose to stay. Now that I am vested, I'm just waiting for the bonus and then move onto greener pastures. GM was a good place to work at (first job out of college) but it was not my cup of tea -- and that bitter taste I discovered was only working 6 months in. On the surface it was a pleasant place to work at, but when you look deeper you see forlorn faces, senseless management, and b---s--- 'images' people portray to look good in a corporate setting... but that's just me.

Hopefully you will like it better than I do.

GM is an abomination, as a two decade employee. I'm leaving as soon as I get the offer. Think indifferent, makes no difference. You will find your place after 10-20 years working for the slave master.

I have been with GM for over a decade. It is a great company to work for. GM has been good to me with a generous salary, bonuses and great work-life balance flexibility. These are hard times and I am uneasy about Monday, but if I get let go I won't be angry, but grateful for the great run. I will look forward to change and a new adventure in life. If I stay, I will be grateful to remain part of the GM team because GM is on a path to do great things. Rest easy my GM brothers and sisters, come what may, we will all find our way. You are all in my thoughts this weekend and I pray for comfort and peace as we approach this difficult week.

Writing is on the wall. Start looking but don't leave. Use them for all they got and look for a job on GM company time....set up a start date at your new company and time it so you get one week vacation in between.
