Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

PCs Mandatory Meeting

Surprise - the sky is not falling. Today’s meeting reviewed the changes in PTO accrual rates and the new attendance policy (both of which have been reported fairly accurately here). It was announced that the PC position will be going to a salaried position mid-year and that all PCs will have to reapply. However, the company is providing training and support between now and then to help the PCs gain any lacking knowledge and skills (primarily computer skills) necessary to be successful in retaining their jobs. Advance notice and assistance - seems pretty fair to me.

Meanwhile, get everything ready for the process changes. It is like making the noose for your own hanging.

As soon as we get everything ready ( all files sent out to go to efile) . It's good riddance to us! Talk about feeling unappreciated after so many years! No wonder my TC position has not and will not be filled . What a let down. I truly feel disposable at this point.

The extra training they are providing is just to save their own face for when they get rid of us and we go out to find other jobs other companies will see that Walmart has had HR folks for 10, 20, 30 years that have never been shown how to use basic computer systems like excel and power point etc. Why would we need this training now? They are getting rid of us!!! Why teach us this sh-- now?

They kept using the term selection. I would like to know who will be conducting these interviews. The MHRM said I hope to be involved. Will it be the store manager interviewing? Will candidates have to go to a regional selection like with AMT? The MHRM did mention severance, but who knows for sure?

PC - Personnel Coordinator

TC - Training Coordinator

The position is hourly. Nothing was mentioned about combining the TC and PC positions into one position at our meeting. All we were told was that the PC position was being changed to People Leader and that it would be an open position anyone could apply for, including the TCs. To those of you who are posting that the positions are being combined - do you know that to be a fact or are you speculating?

What a way to eliminate those who have been with Walmart for 20+ years. Its a way to weed out long term associates and get rid of them!! This new People Partner position is open to anyone = Open pool. PC and TC have to apply and interview for the role as can others, even though PC and TC have the most HR knowledge to run the office. No mention of severance. Many PC and TC feel slapped in the face and unappreciated. Drag us to a meeting, tell us our jobs are gone, then open the position to anyone and tell PC and TC they have to apply and interview for the position. Slap me in the face. Oh but PC and TC still must do their current jobs while the office transitions to the new "role". We have no guarantee that the PC or TC will get the new role. I say lets weed out the long term associates.

Open pool=External candidates=Outside company and/or displaced ASMs when they get demoted. Come on people. Cant you see it? We (PCs and TCs) have no chance in hell for one of these positions. We all might as well be deciding on what we are going to do. Talk to your family and make your decisions based on your and your families needs

At least some of you received apologies for the disrespect in the way it was rolled out from the MHRM or RHRM.

Hmmm, drag me to a meeting. Mention a job name in passing. Make it seem like it is no big deal. Come in next morning for the toolkit, see my job is gone and I can apply for a similar style job. Well.

PCs have a advantage as they will be able to in effect interview for the People Partner position for months before the interview process. Their job performance between now and then will be much more crucial than the actural interview process.

Anybody else who interviews will not have that in their favor.

It’s a double edge sword of course if their performance is not great. I would guess that is why the company designed this process in this way.

In effect a chance for the PC to prove they are the right person for the job as it transforms. I would not be shocked to see this continue in other high responsibility job codes.

I was not at work today after our meeting yesterday. A toolkit cane out today regarding this change? Was it sent just to us or available for everyone on the WIRE?

As a PC, I feel this was a disrespectful move. Most of all PC/TC heard about a new title at our meetings, but didn’t fully understand that it was a competitive position until reading the toolkit ourselves today. Any other change or elimination was treated very private and respectful, but we just got sh-- on. Apologies from market levels and higher being sent via email was not much better. Can’t even vent to the store managers because they were still traveling today. And not to forget, now that our feelings are hurt, we have to try and keep everyone else engaged and excited! Joy!

At anyone's meeting was an exact time frame given for our change? I feel we should definitely be offered a severance package since both positions will be eliminated. If we are not the candidate selected for this position, will they still allow us the 60 days to find another position within the company? I feel like we are just biding our time.

Position is a level D or 7, hourly. GLMS training should be down in a few weeks. Our RHRM said he tinks severance will be there but wouldn't swear to it. This was sprung on us with little detail or commitment. Just a big ax.

So, it’s going to be a fight between PC’s and TC’s about who gets a new position and who gets booted... nice. PC’s will get it 99/100 times.

Why drop just enough information to get Personnel employees worried about their livelihoods and then make them wait weeks to find out for sure? God, this blows.

The new People Lead is expected to be tech savvy, using Excel and PowerPoint. If both PC and TC positions are being eliminated they should both be eligible for severance.

TC will be given the same opportunity as PC’s to apply for people partners. TC will remain in place for now, but it will be according how big your store is for given hours. In other words TC may have part time hours or no hours based on your store. This will also be case for people partners, if you have a Full time pc now and no tc,then you will have only one people partner, if one pc now and part time tc you will have the same people partners. Not sure what all the job will entail right now. Still a lot of questions to be answers.

To me it's upsetting. Both PC TC gone have to reapply for hourly people lead. Anyone can apply. No answers when it's happening or what level it will be. It's exactly what everyone has been worrying about. Not sure where people don't see this. Positions gone !!!!!!!!

It’s staying hourly, People Partners will be the new name and anyone can apply for the job, including all PC and TC ‘s if they wish, in other words it’s a new job. My opinion we will not be offered severance ....buts that totally my opinion no one knew that answer at meetings. Should start 3rd quarter
