Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

And this will help us how?

Unless the goal is to have fewer people buy our cars.

General Motors has made changes to several of its brands' complimentary maintenance plans for 2019 model year vehicles. It now offers just one free service visit instead of the previous two or three visits (depending on brand).

Back to the old ways of bean counters running the company.

Agree. Oil change rule change is c-ap. This is why people don't respect American brands.

Well it doesn't matter because I'd never want to purchase or even lease a GM vehicle.

I talked to my local Chevy dealer about this. The owner is now held responsible for engine damage in the event one forgoes oil changes at scheduled intervals. So while competitors offer white glove service GM flees in the opposite direction. Just bury $100 in the sale price and treat the customer like a king for life. Nope. GM will throw every lawyer it has in the house at you. Nice. Their demise cannot come soon enough and I have three new Chevys in the driveway. Marketing has their head up their a-- on this one for sure.

This change in policy is all about oil changes and has nothing to do with warranty.

A decision up there with cutting back on the warranty.

If your cars are unreliable, customers need the reassurance that you'll fix them if something goes wrong. They don't want to spend all their money on fixing your bad cars.

If your cars are reliable, a long warranty costs you very little because nothing will go wrong.

This is exactly the history of Hyundai and Kia's 10 year warranty.

A short warranty says your cars are garbage but you want the customer to pay to fix them.

Stay in your lane, sir. It's impossible for you and I to understand higher-level decisions devised by Mary and her merry band of misfits. You should sit back in amazement of their brilliance; bask in the afterglow of their big money moves. Know your role.
