Mistreating long term employees

Though it is true that all companies are in business to make a profit, the manner in which they do business and how they treat their staff is not all the same.

Compounding that is the fact that taxes on labor penalize hiring labor, which drives companies to automate and downsize - boosting unemployment - an unwanted consequence of socialist taxes.

Frankly, the management appears to be composed of folks who haven't actually worked in retail, and have no vision for the future of the company beyond the next quarterly earnings report. Mistreating long term employees and easing them out to save on personnel costs will bite them in a tender place.

All those factors add up to a company about to shoot itself in its own appendage or reasonable facsimile thereof.

To @XnpKqrL-1adq : you must be a manager. what if this were happening to one of your parents?! You too will grow older just like everyone else, and will be replaced by a younger person, what will you do then. You know what they say about Karma, it’ll get you every time.

Our company CEO and US CEO have both worked in retail for combined 70 plus years. They are making decisions that are necessary so the company will still exist in the next 50 years. Look at Sears, toys r us, Gymboree.

Someone mentioned that wm will be in trouble once the public knows how corrupt they are to their employees. You're fooling yourself. Not only does the public not care, they're the reason wm has grown bold enough to act like this. Believe me: the average shopper would push their cart over an employee's dead body to get to that clearance item.

@XnpKqrL-1adq - Long Term and Aging employees do not necessarily = less producitivity. I am sure that there minds are still sharp and can out work many that are much younger. Additionally, I am sure that your generation is relishing on the hard work of the older generation as their attributes and abilities have provided you with a nice educated life. It may be effective business and not nice but everyone deserves a chance in this world especially if they have worked hard for it.... When you are hit with this cattle prod called life.....maybe you will think differently especially when a younger and more inexperienced person tells you that you are old and not productive and should just go away.....

Just one of the many unethical ways this company screws its employees. They'll do anything no matter how wrong if it means an extra nickle for the shareholders. Good luck with that working out long term when everyone realizes what a greedy company this is.

Long term, aging unskilled employees who increasingly pose health decline = loss of productivity + extra payroll costs......when you look at it from that perspective, of course they're being cattle herded out the front door. It's not nice, but it IS effective business.

The pendulum continues to swing back and forth.,..They eliminated many truck drivers - now if you watch the news they are trying to recruit more to the team. Happens with each regime change...the new leaders want to make their mark until they realize that they fired people they should have kept and are now in a quandary......i for one was "re-positioned" more than once just to have a Sr. Leader reach out and ask if I would like to rejoin their team.

It does not take an Ivy League education (MBA) to buy and sell merchandise.......

Totally agree. Long term associates are treated like garbage. They want to get rid of long term employees because "they make too much money" and because they have "too much PTO". Garbage! Long term associates are the backbone of the company, committed and many are hard workers. Many managers are focused on profit, profit, profit and how much their bonuses are going to be. They don't give diddly squat about the employees. New employees come in, constantly call in and get their absences approved continually. The minute a long term employee calls in, they get dinged for attendance. I don't call that fair and consistent. I call it b.s.
