Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

No Promotions in Chevron HES unless you are one of the Future Leaders

Well, today I cracked. I went into my bosses office and said I would like to know when the HES Opco Advisor position is going to post so I can apply. I am from one of the countries it supports and I know a great many of the people I would support. He informs me that the job will not be posted but it will be another managed move and that person has already been selected.

I said so we are part of a function that virtually has no open jobs, impossible to get a promotion and senior leadership is terrible and never visible. He said if that makes me feel better by saying that then go right ahead. He said my attitude will guarantee that I don’t get a promotion.

I calmed down and said how can I be considered for the Sponsor or Opco jobs in the future. He said I can’t because they are reserved for future leaders and will always be managed moves.

I am working for the Trump Administration except it says Chevron HES.

I asked , well, is the reorganization going to make any changes in leadership. He said probably not. He said the reorg is about alignment and retraining our current leaders on being good leaders.

OMG….what?

Our leaders need to be retrained. How about just change them out? Look at the mess this function has become.

Its seems that HES does have a variety of less than desirable aspects of how the group is managed and how leaders are chosen. I don't really see it, but I worry about my own path and don't focus on some perceived deck that is stacked against me. But honesty, even at 22, 23, 24 pay scales you can make a really good living as a team member who is getting the work done. Everyone is not cut out to be a leader, despite what most of us would like to believe about ourselves. And the rank and file employee does not get to decide who is a leader; this is not a true democracy; its a business. Those at the top call the shots, plain and simple.

If you feel like the opportunities for leadership are unfairly offered; and your work goes unrecognized, and personal aspirations go unfulfilled well just remember that its not a prison and you are free to leave. Sure it may s--- and be a hard pill to swallow, but rarely has a huge corporate entity truly supported a system of fairness and equality; its not in the best interest of the business. Don't like my statement, think it over and then think again. People are chosen and paths are laid by existing leadership. I think many have their hearts broken when the stark reality of situations surface and they feel its a rigged game. The entire world is rigged in every place where the money flows in plenty. Life involves humans and all would do well to think a little colder when contemplating the morality and generousity of those around us when it comes to money, greed and power. Humans can be wonderful, but for the most part we are less than admirable when the opportunity for personal gain and the control of others arise.

Once you become a senior leader in HES especially if you are a women, they literally stay there until they are forced to retire. No matter how bad they are, Chevron will do nothing except put them in a horse training class and say they are all better. I am in another BU and I heard about the horse training event with the senior leaders. I thought it was a joke when my boss told us and we all laughed and said it must be nice to be at the top. We will stay here on the front line platforms while you guys go out and become horse whisperers.

Just curious, how many of you guys have leaders that say, lets go talk to the horse and learn how to be better leaders. I hope it is just those crazy HES Senior Leaders.

I am in MCBU and my boss told me the senior leaders had their first retraining exercise at a horse farm. He said that he was told it was fantastic and several of the leaders said they learned a lot about leadership. WHAT?

I am guessing the follow-up retraining will be at a Spa in Napa.

HES is Fuc**d up!

Hell, the entire company is run like that. You are not alone, if that makes you feel better. Go to a new employer before you become permanently depressed and jaded. Life is too short.
