Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

It's tough...

I see many comments here and it's tough on many. It's tough on me, not sure if I'll be here after 22 years invested in the company. Yet, do not be so hard on yourself, we cannot control things (aside from posting here) and there is nothing personal here - they are looking at the numbers and they are making decisions. So, if my number gets called, hmmm.... I guess what I am trying to say is that we can influence how good we work, how much effort we put in, our pride and work ethics, how much we learn, at GM and outside GM.

But, we cannot control layoffs. That's on them - the GM execs need to deal with this and on their record and on their conscience. That's how I see things - I am going to continue learning no matter what happens here and will try to stay as relevant as possible as long as I can.

Please do not be too hard on youself.

"I think in 5 years GM will be making all their vehicles in Mexico or China and importing them to the US. The only US employees will be the overpaid executives in Detroit. But people will still call GM an American company because the CEO is American, not because any of the actual work is done here by Americans."

That may be true. I am hoping that GM will be considered the enemy of America, and a significant tariff imposed on all their product.

To: Ztq ,Yes you are absolutely correct , thank you for responding to my question. Maybe GM will move out of the ren-cen cen too in the next five years. It's upsetting how are neighbors in Canada have been treated a real shame indeed.

Most constructive comment yet and intelligence. I'm a car guy and I have a passion for the Corvette and Corvette racing ! That is the reason why I wanted to work for GM as a kid. Living in metro Detroit it's in my DNA and that can't be taken away , just because of greedy money mongering at the top you're corrrect it is their desicion and it's on them. I'm very curious to see what GM will become in the next five years.

Nice comment. Thank you for sharing with us. Yes, we take action for something we can control (like getting resume ready, hunting jobs and learning and improving your skills) but for the layoff, we cannot control so just accept it as part of life.
