GM went on a two year promotion of female empowerment, for the sake of a gender program solely. They didn't state qualifications, only that it reads as female empowerment. While I am certainly not against placing individuals in a position of authority, they need to be qualified. White, black, pink, male, female, or the new non-gender nonsense "tree" or "question mark", joking, if you can do the work, you can do the work. More power to you. If you can't, step aside.
When socrates showcases us women promotions for the sake of genders, they aren't buying credibility among their masses. You want to break glass ceilings? Do it legitimately, without any perks that are excluded among your counterparts.
Is it any wonder that the first female head of an automotive empire, is having difficulties in a time when she is more universally hated than any CEO before her time, even Rick Wagner? Does this news story, a female that jumped ship, really surprise anyone?
At GM, we put people in the wrong seat of the bus ALL the time, we are more lucky than we are intelligent. Why would it surprise anyone that we put the wrong candidate at the head of a division, when those at the top are incapable of leading themselves? If your dull at the top, you will acquire dull talent below. This is your legacy.
What is obvious is that this Julia Steyn, certainly does NOT believe in GM's vision. I've stated in the past from the words of others, one of the automakers makers may not actually make it. Shoot from the hip Mary, may be the one to actually make this occur.
