Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Offer from SF, what would you do?

Background:

I worked for the Farm for about 10 years, and left voluntarily almost 4 years ago. Headhunter found me, i interviewed, and have an offer. Would be about 20% bump in total comp. would require a long commute and eventual relocation assuming the drive gets old.

My questions about the differences after the re .org:

Is decision making REALLY made at a lower level now? Back then basically MT or PS seemed to be the only 2 decision makers which was insane bc they often didn’t know the material well enough. Has this changed ?

Is performance now rewarded more than agreeing or college social connections?

Is the Performance review process now really less time wasting for leadership than it used to be?

Thank you.

the future is in the hubs,so if you're planning on moving to Phoenix, Dallas, and Atlanta. Take the job. If you're not planning to move to the hubs and you only need a job for a couple of years or until you start your own business, get your degree and you need some income, take it knowing its only short term.

As a long-term employee, I disagree with the last commentor. Sure, State Farm has a lot of money in the bank which ranks of us in the top 50 companies. However, the restructuring we have been going through since 2012 has absolutely destroyed the company culture. Employees who have been with the company for years are just hanging in there to age 55 to get the retirement benefits and most are leaving much earlier than traditional retirement age. What the company didn’t count on is so many of the newer millennial employees bailing out. They are leaving in droves. The oppressive unrealistic metrics are crushing the morale of everyone subjected to them. Claims used to be a professional job but now we are all treated like irresponsible children who can’t be trusted. It’s very dispiriting and extremely stressful. I honestly don’t know of a single employee who enjoys working here now. Just read the employee reviews on the employment websites like Glassdoor and Indeed (and disregard the obvious fake positive reviews being put on there by HR). The approval ranking of our CEO is dismal....If the employees could vote, he would be gone in a minute. Maybe sometime in the future, when they acknowledge that this new metric focused model has failed, this can be a good company to work at again—years ago it really was. It is not headed back there yet and there are no signs we are going to get back there soon.

You take the job. A fortune 50 company with an amazing customer base and financial strength. Don’t listen to the people on this site. If you are real and not the OP pretending to be someone, take the job. State Farm and State Farm Bank will be here long after this site.

It's still the same farm it's been for the last decade, only worse because no one knows what the hell they are doing anymore. Lots of experienced employees purged and remaining employees moved to fill gaps. Per usual, the goons up top either do not understand or care about the impact of their decisions.

My advice? If you liked the old State Farm, you'll probably like the new one. If you thought the old State Farm was a mental institution run by lunatics, you probably want to stay gone.

MT absolutely was making decisions 4 years ago, which is when I left. I see the same small minded “gotcha” people are alive and well at State Farm, and they are still wromdnad usual.

Not any legitimate endorsements at all in this thread. Is anything really better? I am not putting stock in the dead weight comment.
