Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

How's it going to go down?

I wonder how they plan on doing it on February 4th? HR gonna be at the entrances checking people's names and sending the ones on "the list' to a conference room or going to wait until the end of the day? Wish they would just tell everyone already.

Anyone want to start a betting pool on how many folks go postal when this goes down? Out 6000 people even if only 1% freak out that is 60 people blasting away! Hope senior managers issue out some Level 3A body armor! LOL Gallows humor at its best.

I hear security will come to you at your desk. Ask you to gather your things, and then take you to conference room for a exit interview (tell you what you can expect severance, pension, and bonus wise-whatever does apply to you depending on yrs of service). If you have a company car you will be sent home in a taxis cab. If only you knew it was coming. You could call in sick, be away from your desk with bathroom problems. (just make it a little rough for them to track you down. LOL). Your manager won't tell you because they don't know and they may be taken out too. It's so disloyal. So demeaning to so many who have given decades of loyalty. There were so many options. Like.. talk to your employees and find out what their plans are. There must be thousands that are 1-5 years from retiring and through attrition GM could meet most of its goals if it just stopped hiring.

If I get a request for a 1-on-1 with a director or HR, I'll just decline it. LOL

Relax guys!! Most of you probably have no idea how it’s gonna happen and coming up with all sorts of scary ideas. In reality, those who will be laid off will be so happy with the package that you will receive that you will proudly walk out of the building. Also , nothing to be worried about badges or other stuffs. You would be allowed to return your stuffs by Feb 28th ( and that will be your last official day in GM)

I've heard it will be a walk of shame like Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones.

What if your manager is in a different state? Mine is for example.

Feb 2009: paper cover over conference room windows to keep it private & "dignified"

all employees requested to be in office (more difficult now without cubes and open seating)

manager comes and requests employee to go to conference room

uncomfortable glances from other employees in area

There must be a better way

I don't care how they do it but just do it now. Hate the waiting part.

It's just a job. We lose this, we get a different ones.

In the 2008-2009 purge, we saw that a number of conference rooms were booked that appeared to be for the upcoming events. Typically, the employee was approached by their manager to come with them, which led to a conference room occupied by their Director and a HR person. IIRC, company car drivers were provided with a ridr home.
