Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Who can say they aren’t gonna do this again on a much bigger scale

Sad to say that at this point nothing can be done about the pending layoffs and plant closures, at least not with this level of worker unity. People will lose their jobs, the company is going to restructure, everything will calm down and it will be business as usual, as sad as al that sounds. What’s even more frightening in this story is the fact that this could be jus the beginning of a vicious process of cost cutting, especially if this works out for them and the production outside the US provest to beneficial to the company in terms of the numbers. If they did it now who can stop them to move all the production to Mexico, Brasil… or whatever?

There are already plans for a 2020 “optimization.” If you look hard enough on Socrates you will find it.

Don't forget the other option. Burning it down to the ground on a hope or dream that didn't pan out.

The cuts always occur with this company. Any 10, 20, or 30 year person can attest to this.

Who's to say they don't trim the fat, focus on their core competencies, break into the rideshare space with their BEVs, earn record profits, and hire more of the best talent as they ascend to the #1 automaker in the world??

Maybe Honda will take GM over , at this point someone does , I feel they are cleaning house to prepare for just that , a merger with either Honda or China will take over.

Don't worry about Brazil. Here, the message from the top managers is clear: if no become profitable again, they will consider leaving the country.

The syndicates started talking... We're waiting the worst scenario.

For me it's not our guilty. The cars sold here are the worst and most expensive. At same price you can find Japanese and french autos with better quality. So top managers are doing here some terror and bad administration!

Even if GM doesn't lay people workers off, I'll still never buy their garbage product.

GM laid off 10% in Austin last year. They're laying off 15% (at least) this year. When a company lays off once, it'll do it again.
