Thread regarding Barnes & Noble Inc. layoffs

Store stock levels ?

For those of you who are still at barnes and nobles I would like to know if the cartons being delivered have slowed. Are you still getting the same amount of freight ? Are your receiving rooms looking like a bomb went off in them. Are they still hounding you to do zone maintenance or do they just want to get out the returns? Do they still want you to waste your time doing a toys and game reset? Just curious ?

“ In my 16 years I have always been tld that a well run and organized receiving room was the heart of the store.”

I’ve heard that too...then they fired the Receiving mgrs and let part timers do it...

guess BN’s “heart” just isn’t in it anymore!

It’ll be sooner, rather than later.

Thanks all for the input. I would have thought if they wanted to save money without over working the sales and inventory manager (which obviously they are not doing their inventory part) they would have gotten rid of the Asm. That sits in the office their whole shift . Or the overpaid district managers that really don't contribute anything to the stores except to tell you what a c-appie job you are doing. In my 16 years I have always been told that a well run and organized receiving room was the heart of the store. If the boxes are not receive and merchandise put out the sales will not be there. Well there you have it. The corporate office definitely made the wrong decision on who to f**k over and now they are paying the price. Now they waste the time to do overnight shifts( So how much are they saving) and still not get the job done correctly . Kinda curious how many boxes don't actually get scanned in. Inventory (if they actually do one before the stores close) is going to be a nightmare for the stores. Stock counts will never be accurate again. If you are still employed at this doomed company....you need to get out now because corporate Wil keep cutting until it bleeds out.

In my store a MM & a ASM did an overnight to catch up on the mess Receiving is in....they received and put on carts about 30 boxes. Still leaving about 60 left to do.

their solution to the 30 plus boxes of magazines was not to put them out (??!!)

They opened them all

Wrote on the boxes what was in them.

Left the old issues on the stand,Didn’t put out, the new ones.

You want to get rid of more employees? Start with the ASM and MM.

The magazine stand in my store is embarrassing. No one wants to help customers because old issues are there, it’s disorganized and frankly most of us know nothing about the section. Steady, loyal customers are disappearing from our store, fed up with the mess we’ve become. Morale here is non existent.... lots of booksellers call out because they just can’t take the disaster that our store has become. Sad to say,I’ve got an interview this coming week with Amazon. After 3 and a half years here I just can’t do it anymore.

Our newstand is a disaster. Old issues are still displayed, unorganized and customers complaining. The newstand lead was laid off, so others pitch in and boxes lay in back due to shortage of staff. They want cash wrap staff to do it in between customers and before opening or when it gets slow. Ridiculous.

In our store a lot of merchandise sits in boxes unopened. Magazines are an afterthought, considering they have a shelf life of 4 weeks. Our Receiving Room never used to look like this. Part timers just don’t care , like the manager did. Put in their few hours and go home. Manager wouldn’t leave until everything was opened and ready to go out. That’s why BN is failing. Bad decisions. You can’t increase sales with product not going to the floor.
