Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

The Dell Guys are Screwing up GM IT

While the old time GM management was not great, all these Dell managers are terrible. Maybe they were good at selling PC's but in my experience they don't understand the business and they don't understand the technology. These changes have made GM IT go from bad to worse.

Deutsch Bank is an example of a company that has its own sophisticated and robust Cloud Infrastructure.

There was the Mott Town Hall when Alan Batey quizzed him about his 2500 acre ranch in Missouri or someplace and Mott looked so sheepish it was hilarious. This was just after they announced all the pending layoffs and there was no mention of them.... the elephant in the room. People were p-ss-d. Right after that mott sent out an email about significant IT cuts. That was back in November I think. So yeah the Dell guys are a bunch of p_ricks.

Randy's insourcing and innovation centers ideas were promising at that time when vendor were run amok. Also GM thought they would expand globally, now it is pretty much a US auto maker. 10,000 IT hires by absorbing HP,IBM and other vendors, opening several innovation centers to house his Dell team plus fresh grads, didn't go the way he thought. Quantity over quality didn't work. Building up its own infrastructure is a complete waste. I bet the pendulum swings the other way too far and everything will be outsourced. Employees suffer with these wild swings. Good luck to everyone involved.

100% agree. Good ol' boys network with the Dell crew in Austin. They are all cut from the same mold and in general I have not come across one ex-Dell manager that I can say was good to work with.

Yes, totally agree. GM has become Dell 2.0. No promoting from within. Just bring over an old Dell buddy.
