Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Has anyone else noticed the backlash in IT already

Several top performers i know that were 100% not being layed off have already found new jobs and quit or plan to quit either way within the next few weeks. Anybody else notice this?

Seems the top performers are leaving ( I assume its very easy for these people to pass a non GM style interview) and it has hurt our team.

I was a NCH and left last year (after three years) because I didn't see a future. I had received top bonuses on my team. I feel terrible watching all my friends from my old team go through this.

@XibnI59-xok Tre I respect your unceremonious departure from GM. That truly is the best way to resign.

@XibnI59-xok : That was an amazing move Tre. Leaving the laptop at the desk, going on a long vacation and emailing from your private account that you have quit on the day you were supposed to be back from vacation!

I was an NCH and I left. I was looking to leave my team because they're hopelessly stuck in legacy tech and they're already talking about replacing our function with a third party company. I got good reviews and my team liked me, far as I know, but once the IVSP got announced, I started looking right away. The way I saw it, best case I stayed at my current position for months more, worst case I got let go. Both options s---ed, so I chose to abandon ship. I feel bad because my team was already shorthanded as hell, but them's the breaks.

I will have some 2nd route interviews next week. I just wait for severance package and bonus. I am top performer in my team. It will be a loss to GM. Yes, layoff is not always a bad thing. It pushes you to get out there and try your best to get a better chance for your life.

You would think the employees at Ford would spending more time in their own layoff thread instead of trolling the GM thread.

Good, GM deserves it. This SHOULD come back to bite them in the a--. They post a profit, get a tax break, then start cutting people? A quarter of a year later and folks still don't know whether they're going to be told to leave or not!?

Nah, good for the folks leaving. I hope GM suffers for this in one way or another.

Yes- I have noticed some top performers leaving. I’ve also noticed some c-appy/middling performers leaving. But the company is definitely losing a large number of million dollar hires- the sorts of people they should be working to keep at all costs. It’s always the rare few who truly keep organizations afloat afterall.

This is why layoffs aren't always bad. For some teams you get a chance to unload some of the people who don't perform and wont leave on thier own. It's harsh but true.

"How are they 100% certain? Based on what?" I worked with them saw their work ethic, by far the #1 NCH left and our manager was well aware and tried to get him to stay. Also other top NCH's IMO on my team are leaving

I'm leaving as soon as they pay the bonus and my hsa money. A severance package would be a nice kicker if they want me to go earlier.

Good for them! I hoped that would happen. Why would you stay, especially if you are early in your career. My advice is go to a more stable industry.
