The Power Sector Just Got A Big Contract From Alstom and Thise Greedy Board Members. Greenville and Salami and Schenectidy all are going to get aviation work shipped to those plants stayed. Ask your managers when? One of them will spill the beans.

It's a trap!
ill believe it when i see it.
This Aviation work is either going to be nothing more than sc-aps that will keep us fed but still hungry or it'll be used to set us up and knock us down. If Aviation were growing very fast then it wouldn't seem that fishy. It's BS or the fix is in!!
Schnectady boss asked for 2 million to "renovate" and was told NO. I guess that can be taken a couple different ways...
The majority of "machinists" for Aviation are tool room types. $38 an hour ish for a tool maker. More for off shifts. The rest of the operations are broken down into lesser paid pay rates. A lot of those are second tier newbies making $10 an hour less on their 10 year progression plan. So I'd guess most of the operations are being done for less than $22 an hour. The more complex operations are getting $30 an hour, but again a lot of newbies filling those slots. Previous post mentioned the union doing big favors for the workers, ah....no, and those of us at non union plants are just along for the ride. They are farming out work to contractors, so no they probably won't spend millions to retool and retrain. Used to work for Energy, and can tell you it just isn't done.
I can't imagine why not but maybe they don't want to see you go.
Unless GE is going to save money by sending Aviation’s work some other place that needs to be retooled and retrained to do the work, it makes no sense to do so. I have a hard time believing that a machinist for Aviation makes so much more an hour than one at Schenectady that it’s worth sending the work to us. The highest paid machinist on the floor in Schenectady makes over $40 an hour. So what does an Aviation machinist make? Over $60? If any of this Aviation work coming to us is true, mark my words. IT’S A TRAP!!!

It has been said in a meeting last week that avaition work is coming to Schenectady. They are making room in building 273 in C and D bay.
JL has a choice, bring aciation to 273 or gvl.. whats it going to be.
go ask any d-rate machinist at schenectady and they swear they are the highest paid machinists in all of ge. clain to be the best to!
We machinists at aviation haven't seen a raise in 7 years. Just COLAs.
Sorry to inform you. But aviations machinist got pay raises when power didnt. They make more at aviation cause their union actually fights for them
"Any Power employees going to work in Aviation in their site will be converted (and trained and certified) to Aviation employees." Call me crazy, but I see a Trojan Horse!! Look at all this Aviation work that is going to keep you Power workers busy. No layoffs!! Oh there's one catch, you need to be an Aviation worker to do this work. So we'll just switch your job classification and employer status. Oh that's right, the pay is different. Sorry it pays less and yeah there's a lengthy line behind you willing to do the work if you don't want the pay cut. So what do you want to do? I'd help you out if I could but my hands are tied. Sorry, I think you should keep your hard earned Power employee pay scale but I don't have the authority. So hurry up and make your choice.
Funny, people don’t remember Aviation did set up shop inside GVL main plant around 10 years ago and eventually grew large enough that they moved out to Piedmont.
I am not saying this rumor about Aviation work getting done by Power employees is credible, but Aviation has converted part of Power facility to Aviation facility before. Any Power employees going to work in Aviation in their site will be converted (and trained and certified) to Aviation employees.
In Engineering, Tools team, which used to have mix of Aviation and Power employees, has already gone through the absorption and everyone is Aviation employee now, minus some that got RIFed.
Agree -gas. Aerospace Standard 9100 or 9110 would be applicable as well as FAA repair/inspection certification either limited in scope or for full overhaul and repair for any aviation work. This work won't be accomplished in any GE Power facility at this time.
Aviation work needs to be done under a different ISO standard, and under FAA, Military oversight. It's not going to be done at a Power facility.
Nobody has explained why the place with the experienced personnel that should be doing this work isn't going to be doing the work. For some reason everybody seems to think it makes perfect sense to have people who don't even work for Aviation, do all the work. Makes as much sense as sending work for Power too Aviation. I'm sure this aviation work will just keep on coming!!
I will sit by my phone and wait for the call to return to get another layoff notice in the near future. This is a great company!
Would be aeroderivative gas turbines
Doin FFA work in a plant that isn't certified to do so. Good luck on that 👍
Why do you think they sent the bet ops leaders to aviation. To learn and observe before the work hits 273
Greenville will be recalling machinest as well
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA that's funny right there!!!
