Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Is it certain this week is safe?

Trying to put all the rumors, predictions, and other tidbits together. From what I gathered, this week is definitely not the layoffs week? And the next one is the most likely candidate?

If you don't mind me asking, why do you trust the sources, did they hear it or are they involved with the layoffs? Managers/HR?

No one will be let go next week either. Guaranteed. 2 separate sources.

We always let employees go on Fridays. Just like the previous poster said, it provides a cooling off period during the weekend; which can prevent someone going “postal”. We also offered job search training the following week starting Monday at a 3rd party location so this also gave the employee somewhere to go and possibly feel a little hopeful about the future. Based on Barra’s comments, I think GM is going to provide this service as well. Anyone in the know?

Nothing is certain during this Circus Act. Fridays are good days for the tap on the shoulder because the weekend provides a natural cooling off period. That being said, if your manager hasn't required you to be in the office for a particular range of days, then you are likely "safe" for now. I would prefer that they just get it over with.
