Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Loyalty and hard work do not pay off when the company survives by playing the numbers

Laid off after 19 years. Seems to me the people let go were some of people who had been there a long time and had higher (but still lower than industry standard) salaries. I'm leaving with a unique set of knowledge and skills, specific to the legacy/merger aspects of the network, that are not going to be extremely difficult to replace if at all. Loyalty and hard work do not pay off when the company survives by playing the numbers. You have to take care of your people too or you are doomed to fail, no matter what the books look like.

You never hear stories of people who have been and still here at windstream for 19 years and do not do anything and think they're entitled to just sit around and get paid. There are plenty and are not mgmt, IMO that's the core problem of this company. They're to loyal to those who have been around. We're in the business to make money, not chit chatting. I wish mgmt would weed out the weak but i heard the firing process is hard. For the person in this post, your lack of skill is your own fault, dont pin that on windstream. You should have realized it when you were at Windstream and worked on it to prepared you for what you're dealing with now.

That's another issue, people get comfortable and refuse to evolve and learn anything new but yet expects a huge raise smh.

For the person with the 4 year degree, you're doing it all wrong, if you want a job within the tech field, get a few respected certification within the sector, dont blame it on Windstream. People lack the effort to improve themselves nowadays outside of work and expects their employer to pay for everything. I get job offers daily only because i have multiple certifications and see finding another job very easy if i choose to do so.

I will say, within my circle at Windstream, we've only let go of people who produce very little.

Anyone who has tried to leave. Have you noticed that Windstream has hurt your resume more than helped? With my degree and my experience, I have interviewed with other companies. I had one person tell me I did not have enough experience despite the fact I do pretty much the same thing. I have been with Windstream for seven years. I have a degree in computer science from a great university. Has anyone had the same issue? If you apply for a job that is comparable to the systems with a different company, you will not be looked at. I had one person tell me that my skills would match better with technical support. I told them I use the same systems of the analyst that you are looking for, and he said I did not have enough experience. It is real sad. I was not laid off, but I know I can make more with other companies. I know I am stuck until another company will give me a chance. Has anybody had the same luck?

You are spot on with your assessment. I was just talking with someone about this very subject. I am being laid off also, with almost 19 years in the company. It is a shame that they target the individuals that have given the most.

I'm sorry to hear you were laid off. The company is a joke run by clowns. I was smart enough to leave the company about a year ago. Couldn't be any happier. I hope the best for you and everyone else that loses their jobs.
